Year 5 can also be very busy (exposure opportunities) for NUSH students.

DC was given 2 blocks (after semester exams) of internship in a AStar lab to do ARP. May 14 to June 20 2014 and Oct 13 to 19 Dec 2014

So just choose either one right ? But it's compulsory to do ARP right ? Btw, what is ARP ? Advanced Research Programme ? Very new to this, thanks !

Advanced Research Project is a must for graduation and students are given one year to complete their ARP. DC was in the AStar lab during both periods full time working on her ARP.

My point is that by end of year 4 and beginning of yr 5, NUSH students need to be proactive looking for research mentor and lab and there are opportunities for internships (without pay and also do not need to pay fees to the lab, research equipment, samples and regents are all expensive items).

DC took NUSH DSA 6 yrs ago, think scope is still more or less same.
DC did not tell me details of the test, but I think it covers maths and sciences

Do not expect direct-memory response type of questions!

Did your DC participate in any of the Maths Olympiads or Competitions?

If not, get past papers to practices. There are a few such competitions during my DC time. The style the questions are set varies between competitions, so practices on a few.

1, SMOPS by HwaChong, some questions are available in the internet.
2, NMOS by NUSH, no information on questions availability
3, Pri Maths World Contest by RI, no infor on availability
4, SASMO, available 7 yrs ago from Learning interactive Pte Ltd
5, AMC 8, available years ago from Maths Oasis
6, UNSW competitions, available from UNSW Spore office 8 years ago.

For Science,
Must understand all PSLE science well, must able to read, interpret data, graph and pictorial information and relate them to principles and concept learned in PSLE science. Practice UNSW science papers.

I believe the scope and format of questions would be a test of:

- understanding of PSLE Maths and science,
- logic, creativity and insight of applications of concept outside of PSLE syllabus
- demonstrated keen interest and advance understanding of S(cience), T(echnology), E(ngineering) and M(athematics) beyond P6.

To add more the dc must have the right attitude to learn n perserver

Because it is NUS High School of Maths and Science - the expectations of the students and the standards are much higher than the other Sec 1 or 2


If you want to compare - then compare with schools like RI, RGS, Cedar or SST

In general, the contents and the level that were taught in these school were higher (than other schools) and in NUSH is slightly even higher.
However, the students have the abilities and capabilities to absorb and understand the higher order concepts.

This is what make NUSH so different from others.
The training is much more vigorous and really prepare them for a much higher level of demand in higher institute of learning. The better ones are even taking their lessons in NUS itself (attending classes together with the undergrad)

A lot of the graduates from NUSH usu end up in some overseas Uni with scholarships.
