      phtthp:
How to compute COP for P2, based on 3 subjects (English, Maths, Chinese) ?

For my DD's school, the top 40 scorers will go to the top No.1 class in P3. The next 40 scorers will go to 2nd best class. The rest will go to the mixed ability classes. The stakes are too high! The more experienced and qualified teachers are always assigned to the top classes. Haven't you noticed the trend where the better teachers usually teach in?

This June holidays should not be used for any vacations oversea. It should be used to brush up on the child's current standard.

Phtthp, you should check with your child's teachers. They will be in a better position to tell you where your child is heading to based on the mid-year results. It is still not too late to spend this one month to brush up the foundation.

Ask the teachers for advice and what needs to be done. Parents must ask otherwise not all teachers will share with you.

Our PTM is stressed by the teacher as she placed lots of emphasis on the streaming to P3. She is aiming for the whole class to go to the top classes together. In her words, this Jun holiday is not for the kids to have fun, it's for them to revise and catch up. I am lucky that my ds listens to his teacher. He plans his timetable to do his hw everyday, Mon to Fri 10am to 5pm. Of cos, there is breaks in between lah.

Hi, can you share your child's timetable with us? 💋

My ds’ teacher told us what his position in class and cohort. For his school, they have top 3 classes so the teacher told us that to be safe, the kid has to be in the top 80 positions in the cohort.

To be fair, the teacher mentioned about having better learning environment if the kid manages to get into top classes lah, can sense that she has good intention for the kids, not just for her KPI.

Do you know your cop for HA classes?

You have to check with your child's school and teachers. They will be in a better position to advise you what is the current standard of your child and how much effort the child needs to put in if aiming for the HA classes.

As a kiasu parent, of cause I have already found out what was the 'usual' cop
A child has to score a min. Of 270/300 (90% average) to stand a chance. However, scoring 270/300 is very risky if happen that the cohort is stronger than previous years. Thus, to play safe and not be the bottom of HA, 280/300 and above is almost a guaranteed place :siam:

wow ! 280/300 is a high score : to be within Top 80 students (top two P3 classes), in level cohort.
But 280 not easy to get

usually, the better Tr are assigned to the smarter P3 classes.

The Parent-Teacher-Meeting was crucial as I had a lot to learn indeed. Read a lot!!! This cannot be over-emphasized and it is going to get more challenging for the P2s. Sweat!!! 5 more months to go...and it will soon end this streaming for P2 to P3 nightmare in Nov.

                    How's your PTM?

actually, this streaming thing is stressful, for kids.

suppose the 81th position student is behind 80th position student, by just half a mark (very little). For this, the 81th ranked level cohort pupil fail to enter the Top 2 classes, so cried.

then come end of P3 :
face another round of streaming (as some kids transfer out to other primary schools for P4), there may be students from within the Top 2 classes who drop out, they cried also, if can't maintain position within these 2 classes, at Year end.

The 81th child will not know he / she is the 81th lol

Ironically the 41th position pupil in 2nd best class has a better chance to be in the 1st position. Being in the top best class is very stressful...

Being in the best class can be very stressful and I know of 2 examples whereby the kid performed better after being \"kick out\" of the best class in P5 and went on to get high 260s in PSLE. The morale of the child suffered tremendously and claimed that he can never catch up with his classmates who are maths science wizards etc when he was in the best class. Being in the best class in P3 and P4 also means must constantly perform well as the competition resets itself in P5 based on end P4 results in a lot of schools. Never-ending unfortunately.
