Starlight - we're not at hdb now. Now at private apartment which we hope to rent out if we can downgrade to smaller place in future.

I am quite surprised that even buying a resale hdb is not allowed unless you dispose your private ppty within 6mths.

If you understand the purpose of HDB, it is not surprising at all.

HDB is meant to be affordable housing for the masses. Not meant to be hogged by the well-off and depriving others who need it more desperately.

HDB wouldn't chase the owner out as long as owner choose to stay in the HDB even if they can afford to buy private for investment. If they are not staying in the HDB, then they have to sell. The basic principle is, HDB is meant to be affordable housing, NOT meant to be an investment tool.

But HDB wouldn't let you buy if you have already demonstrated to able to afford private housing. Unless of coz you downgrade which means you are selling the private, then you can buy HDB.
OT: anybody renting out their hdb flat to live in their condo?

That is against HDB rules isn't it?

If you don't intend to stay in the HDB, should just sell it.

        From HDB website :-
        \"Subletting of Whole Flat

As an owner# of a non-subsidised/ subsidised flat, you can sublet your entire flat after living in it for at least 3 or 5 years, respectively and have satisfied the NC subletting quota if you are subletting your flat to non-Malaysian NCs. You must obtain HDB's written approval before subletting your flat.
Subsidised Flats : Flats bought directly from HDB or from the open market with a CPF housing grant
Non-Subsidised Flats : Flats bought from the open market without a CPF housing grant.\"

So it can be done. And if the owner has the power to hold both HDB and private condo, why not?

Once HDB increase the income ceiling, with more supply of HDB flats, do you think the current bigger flat owners will dispose their HDB flats and invest in private condo instead?
So they changed the policy?

Previously there has to be special reasons before subletting whole flat is allowed. For e.g. staying with and looking after aged parents, overseas employment etc..

        Why not?

bcoz hogging HDB flat lead to reduced supply and increase in pricing.

And many young pple are already complaining that the price of the pigeon hole is getting out of their reach.

They are allowed to rent out whole flat and move into their condos after they have met the MOP (3 or 5years depending when they bought their flats).

Not sure. The 3/5 years MOP looks like general clause and need not be valid for people who subsequently oen private props.

The above was quoted from hdb…so better check with hdb coz there are clauses that state that hdb is not for revenue generstion.

Cos if u had purchased a condo first, the assumption is u've already hit the income ceiling when u got married or u can jolly well afford a pte condo, so kindly stick to your pte ppty and leave the subsidised housing to those who truly need it and don't mess with the prices. :rotflmao:
