Nope, Mrs KS, just a few years back, private property owners were allowed to buy HDB from the resale market. 1 out of 10 who bought a resale HDB flats owned private properties.

After late 2010, only HDB owners (after they have met MOP), can go ahead and buy private properties (rent/keep their HDB flats) but private property owners must dispose all their private properties within 6months if they intend to get a HDB flat.

If that is the case, still have hope that the original measure be reinstated after the HDB price is in control.

But agree..the current measure is unfair to the private home owners (only).

I also remember around that time so many measures coming out like for eg..the cap of number of years(?) allowed for renting out HDB that is owned by non citizens..

got to agree that hdb should not be used as a investment tool. hdb should stop allowing ppl who own pte property to rent out their hdb, instead owner who wanna to move to their condo should put their hdb on the market. of course there will be exception, ppl who’s parent shifted in with them could have their parent flat rented out.


imho, rich ppl should not hog on their hdb.

This article jolts me up from slumber.

BTO flats should always remain low-cost public housing for the masses and not for the rich and privileged.

There are so many ways to encourage social interaction between the different groups. Staying in a HDB flat with your door closed will not provide the interaction either.

This article also points to a failure in our meritocracy? Many AOs who are usually PSC scholars are selected based on their result apparently come from privileged family background. If they find AOs disconnected from the ground, why not review the selection process instead of asking potential scholars to stay in HDB?

Having said that, if the policy makers are so naive as to allow everyone to own BTO, you will see me queuing up for my chance too. Not because I believe in their community interaction story but rather I looking to enjoy a brand new unit with a high resale value or high rental yield after MOP :siam:
