Realised I am quite out of touch with current education system after pr. school. Can I ask if Chinese High School still exists or it is now called HCI? And for the Raffles family, gals will join RGS for 4 yrs and then move to RI (so RJC doesn't exist too?)? And boys will stay in RI for 6 yrs?HCI's integrated with NYGH. All girls join HCI for the integrated programme unless they want to transfer/do too badly that they took O levles.
Its not HCJC. Its HCI (College) -

hmm around 2005 hcjc and the chinese high decide to merge (after they offered the integrated programme) and be called HCI. Around 1-2 yrs ago RJC decide to do the same thing with RI and RJC is now called RI(JC).

So for NYGH & RGS, they are still part of the family but just doesn't want to merge. RJC exists as RIJC and rgs girls & ri boys will move to rijc to study.
Even after the merger i guess you can still distinguish them in terms of campus area. -

thanks coffee cat for enlightening me! So from Sec 1-4, is HCI a boys' school or co-ed school?hmm around 2005 hcjc and the chinese high decide to merge (after they offered the integrated programme) and be called HCI. Pardon my ignorance, is it compulsory for all P3 to be screened for GEP? Can parents opt the child out and not sit for the tests? My dd is in good SAP Pri and doing very well thus posted to a high ability class. Personally, we felt that if she can continue to be in the top class for the rest of her Pri sch years, sheβll excel and do well for PSLE, regardless of whether gifted or not.
Also, we believe the school can nurture and provide holistic education for her and she loves and enjoys studying in her current school too. -
screening is not compulsory. kids will bring home a form seeking parental consent.

ya .. a consent form will be given for parents and those are not keen to let their children take the test can opt out their kid from taking the test... I think all p3 students are encourage to try especially those who are high ability...nevertheless if your kid eventually qualify to go to GEP, you can still opt not to let your kid go and remain in the mainstream. If your kid intend to go for DSA when she is in p6, qualifying to go GEP, though she did not join and remain in mainstream, should be an added value..
...But of course, going gep doesn't guarantee very good psle results and by staying in the mainstream may let her has more time to prepare for it. However, if you think she is able to cope and would like her to be further 'stretch' and experience more...then it is good to let her try for gep...
