      daddy2007:
\"He also asked them to consider having smaller group representation constituencies, so as to reduce the average size of such constituencies to below five members, and have at least 12 single member constituencies. There are currently 15 group representation constituencies and 12 single-seat constituencies\"

Looks like next year the game plan will have to change with the choice of schools available in each GRC/SMC
Agree! Current GRL who are serving their term must be biting nails now waiting anxiously on the news if their constituency they are serving will be merge with other or 'Carve-Out' from current electoral boundaries.

As GE could happen in the next 6-12 mths or so (tho it's up to Jan 2017), suggest GRLs to check with PA what's the standing policy -

They will honour the electoral boundary at the point you joined as GRL, or at the point you are due to register for P1?

Your GRC might be carved out as an SMC, and your choice sch might fall under a diff constituent. Nobody knows for sure.

They didn't think abt this cos this 2-yr ruling just kicked in.

          Wanna ask…

The Pri Sch that I am interested in is not fall under the GRC which we are staying (although where we are staying is within 1km of the Pri sch). In that case can I still volunteer at the Pri Sch GRC as Grassroot Leader?

          Thanks in advance!

Yes, you can volunteer at that GRC but you won't get the priority for that GRC.

Better wait for new electoral boundary to come up first and see if the school you are interested in fall in which GRC or SMC, hopefully, you don't face a problem where you serve in constituency you live but school fall under another constituency! Sometimes it is just a road in between...

                Hi everyone,

I'm new here, please could you let me know if your advice on \"active community leader\" still stands? The last post I read on here is dated 2008 - correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks so much!

                UPDATE:
oops, just realised there are 2015 posts. will read and ask questions, if any! 🙂

The spirit of GRL is to serve the community and the right to register at 2B is a bonus. It should not be viewed as a way to get 2B priority. Technically, when they change the boundaries due to an election, it should not have an impact since you are serving the same people. However, its now viewed differently. Sad but true.

It is important not to volunteer as a GRL for the wrong reasons. Speak volumes of the values and character of a person if the sole purpose is to get a 2B priority instead of serving the community. Does the new PA ruling (minimum 2 years of service) take effect for the 2015 registration for P1 (2016)? Thanks.

                      In principle... correct.
                      In practice... :rotflmao:
Take away the 2B priority and the various business opportunities/network, I'll be surprised how many volunteers would be left. There are many altruistic people in the world, but definitely not enough to fill up the number of places that PA required/created.

When the people in an organisation deviates from the core purpose and are chasing after personal gains instead, there is only one direction for the organisation and that is downhill. Not a surprise that the recent AGO report cited PA for multiple lapses. Many senior GRLs have also spoken up on how disruptive these "opportunistic Phase 2B" GRLs could be as they come and go. The system is unable to sustain itself in the long term. Short term goals are attained but in the long term, the organisation suffers.

I think the PA has realised that the system has been "abused" over the years and i think the new ruling would be effective in ensuring the PA gets the right people. I concur with Orb that the spirit of being a GRL must first and foremost be to serve the community. The rest of the perks that comes with it are bonuses.
