Does anyone has experience traveling via Shinkansen from tokyo to Osaka? What's the most economical type of tickets to buy? I intend to stay in Osaka for a few days and travel to Kyoto and Nara as a day trip, what kind of traveling options anyone can recommend? Thanks in advance.

Get ordinary car tickets is good enough. No need to pay more for green car.

With the Japan rail pass, you can also travel from Osaka to Kyoto and Nara on the shinkansen.
If you have the time, you may wish to make a trip to Hiroshima to visit the Atomic Bomb Dome or a trip to Miyajima (ferry ride included in the Japan Rail pass). Miyajima is a gem to visit besides the scenary and the oysters.
Oh yes, both Miyajima and Nara have plenty of deer.

I dont see any reasons not being able to do such trips in Dec. Of cse, the weather would be cold (definitely not as cold as Hokkaido) and so warm/thick clothing is essential.

Is it recommended to bring baby and toddler to Japan now? I miss Japan so much. Used to travel to japan at least once a year till the radiation issue cos I have a baby and toddler.
Hi,

Plan to visit Tokyo, Osaka and Koyto from 1/12/2015 to 13/12/2015.
Any recommendation for accommodation in Tokyo and Osaka for 2A and 2C?

Hello, we (2A1C) like these hotels:
Tokyo
Hotel Ryumeikan Tokyo
Near Tokyo Station (about 5-7 minutes' walk at 6-year-old's pace)
Convenience shop (Family Mart) nearby
Tokyo Station itself has a Daimaru with lovely food hall
Rooms have Nespresso machine and yummy snacks

Keio Plaza
Established hotel about 7-10 minutes' walk (6-year-old's pace) from Shinjuku Station
Rooms are pretty decent
Osaka
Hotel Monterey Grasmere Osaka
Practically next to JR Namba station
OCAT terminal is next door to the hotel (OCAT = Osaka City Air Terminal which is a bus terminal for the Airport Limousine Bus Services for Kansai and Itami airports)
There's a shopping centre with a supermarket next to the hotel
Hotel has a stone chapel inside (recreation of an English chapel)

Hope this helps!

Thanks for your reply. Can share your itinerary with me?
Me too... Would love to review your itinerary , djl. Can pm me ? Thanks !
