Stan Issac provides warranty for one year, so if the vision deteriorates within that period, they will order a new pair FOC. My dd wear Ortho K nightly, but still deteriorated after one year.

To refit the lens, my dd had to stop Ortho-k for a few weeks to determine the actual degree. Then, the optometrist will take measurement again. During that few weeks, dd was given daily disposable contact lens. Different Ortho-k providers have different practices, some will advise against disposable contact lens during such transition period and offer free spectacles.

I would also suggest you to ask your ortho-k provider to clean the lens for you thoroughly every two to three months. This can reduce the chance of eye infection. Home cleaning alone might not be sufficient. Stan Issac charges $20 for this service.

I have also made a pair of spectacles for my dd in case of eye infection or if she needs to go for overseas immersion. I doubt she will have the time to clean her lens properly when she is overseas.

        Fat Mama:
        Hi,

I have learnt so much from other parents from KSP and would like to share DD's experience with O-K lens with parents looking for ways to control the progression of their DC's myopia.

DD on O-K lens for 6 mths. Before that, I read the posts on KSP and did my homework and went down to inquire at one of the recommended optician at Parkway Parade branch and called their other branches in Tampines and Toa Payoh. DD eyesight abt 300 deg and was quoted $1800. I felt the price was OK but they were not very professional and did not give me the confidence to make the O-K lens with their company.

I made enquries at Stan Isaccs last, bcos I thought they will be very expensive as they are reputed and located at Camden Medical (Orchard). But to my surprised DD O-K lens was quoted $1600, that's cheaper than the others. They are very professional, friendly and kiasu as well. Why kiasu, bcos of the many many check ups but I dont mind bocs it concerns DD's EYES....

The long journey starts with the first appt.......

First appt, the optometrist check DD's eyes while I sip on the free coffee/ tea/ soft drinks and eat biscuits, read newspaper/ mags provided at the waiting area. Finish checking, I went in and talk to the opto, she explained all the necessary in detailed and ask us to come back for TRIAL on the hard lens before deciding if we want to proceed with O-K lens.
We paid $165 for consultation and the TRIAL. If we decide to proceed with O-K lens, this $165 is deducted from the $1600.

3 days later, second appt was the TRIAL. DD was supposed to wear the trial hard lens for 4 hrs and the opto will assess if she is suitable to proceed, no tearing or redness and if DD able to take the discomfort of something in her eyes etc. Opto put on the hard lens (not the O-K lens) for DD and told me that DD is suitable to proceed as she was very good when opto put in the lens. That saves us a trip to go back 4 hrs later. Opto said some kids and even teenagers struggle and fight when opto try to put in the lens. So not suitable to proceed. Opto asked DD if she wants to wear the O-K lens and all the required long term commitment etc... DD said she wants to wear and able to commit so we proceed to pay for the O-K lens package $1600 - $165.

A week later, the O-K lens arrived, DD was taught all the necessary ....
For the first 2 days, she will wear for 2 hrs for getting use to it.
For the next 2 days, she will wear for 4 hrs.....
If everything OK then can proceed to night wear of at least 8 hrs.
After the first night wear, we have to go to the opto next morning, wearing the lens for them to check the eyes. As DD's deg is not too high, her eyesight was corrected very fast.
Her classmate's deg was abt 600+ and she took abt 2 wks to correct so she had to wear contact lens to school. She was provided with lens deg 300, 200, 100 till obtain perfect eyesight.

Checkup will be in 1 mth time and 2 mths after that if everything alright.

DD's another classmate bought the O-K lens with another optician. Her process was simple - check, collect and wear. No trials nor checkups before proceeding to purchase.

We are glad we made the right choice and we are very satisfied with the service provided at Stan but PARKING at Camden is very very expensive. :moneyflies: :moneyflies: :moneyflies:

        Sorry for the long post.
        Totally agree.
My DD on O-K for 3 weeks already.
I felt they are more professional as well.

          Hi Frisbee,

May i know during the few weeks without wearing O-K lens, how do u know wat deg contact lens to wear the next morning when the eyes adjusting?

For spectacles do u make her exact deg or lower?

Did u make her specs at Stan? Their frames are very expensive.

          Tks

            Hi Fat Mama,

Stan Issac will estimate the vision change and give disposable lens of dif degrees.

I have two pairs of spectacles, one for exact degree and one for reduce degree, I make the spectacles outside. Stan Issac’s range of spectacles are expansive.

Do take notes that Stan Issac will take only the first consultation (or two) nowadays and then follow up consultations will be with other optometrists. Beside going back to regular checkup every three months, now My dd also go to an Ophthalmologist for her eye check annually. In case of eye infection, should go to an Ophthalmologist instead of an optometrist.

            Thanks

My dd had eye infection after 6 months on Ortho K, she went to KK hospital and the infection cleared up pretty fast. So She goes back regularly for check up (half yearly). Now reduces to annually but can go back anytime if got problem. The subsidized rate is about $30 to $50 per visit.

I guess you can choose any national eye center, their rates are reasonable compare to private.

Did you just made your own appt at KKH as a walk-in private patient? $30 to $50 is very reasonable!

If she goes for a checkup, is it just to check for eye health? The myopia would have been corrected by the ortho-k lenses, so it is not to check the degrees, right?

I'm thinking of getting a regular opthamologist for a regular checkup for my kids, much like your DD's. I'm more kiasu about eyes- after all, only have 1 pair of eyes to last the whole lifetime!

                      Hi, bangs,

$30 to $50 is subsidized rate, can be more expansive if atrophine eye drop is needed. You can only get the subsidized rate if you are referred by Polyclinic. Thanks

Today, after a long time, I finally made a trip to visit the widow of Andrew Lim, the late optician who had taken care of my 5 children's eye sight for years. Of course, my oldest boy has been on Ortho-K for almost 10 years, and his eye sight went from 300 degrees to now 175 for both eyes. I don't think at 19 his eyesight will worsen.

I was wondering how to move on with Ortho-K following Andrew's death, and missed his wonderful service. Fortunately, his wife has always been around whenever we visited because we were late visitors, and she is also a qualified optician (so are his son and 2nd daughter). Following some saga, Point Optics now have a host of qualified graduate opticians. Having lived overseas for a while and being used to 'ang-mo' opticians who are more thorough and professional, I am glad they adopted the same level of professionalism not often seen among non-graduate opticians in most shops. I was happy for the business.

I was worried two of my children might have their myopia increased. Fortunately, it didn't seem so. The visit was long and thorough and they made sure my teens knew how to take care of the cleanliness, how to take care of their eyes and also the lenses. They also deep cleaned the lenses and changed the cases. Progression, my kids have progressed from me taking care of things to them taking care of their own things. It is important because for us, each visit must last us more than 3 months and the folks had to teach us how to deep cleanse our lenses also, not just the daily cleaning.

When the optometrist observed my other daughter's sensitive eyes, he did a thorough check and gave sound advice even though she was just tagging along her brother and sister, not planning to see the optometrist. Eye hygiene and some tips on eye care can go a long way. When I told Chris my son had eye tracking problems, (normally linked to special needs children where they skip a line or words when reading), she recommended me to an eye doctor who specialized in a kind of lens that can change behavior. I remember Andrew told me about that during my very last visit with him.

We left the shop with everything in place, one more visit and we will be ready for our trip home overseas. They charged us nothing, gave us loads of friendship and a good 3 hours of their time and knowledge, contacts and great messages. I am happy Andrew can probably be happy that his shop is well run again, kudos to his wonderful wife, children and staff.

I continue using their Ortho-K, as I have used others before and nobody beats their level of details and service yet. I asked Chris if she is settled and is ready to take on more. She showed me her new office ready for more Ortho-K customers. They have 400 satisfied ones.

If you want Ortho-K service, have a thought about them. They helped my son reduce his myopia when he was 9 and increasing every few months from 300+ to 175, my daughter went to all sorts of myopia treatments and spent thousands of dollars on other solutions, and now switched to Ortho-K. Her vision is 200+, my other daughter is myopic in one eye only, my other son has astigmatism and they have managed it from 4 years old to 13 years old. My smallest boy was always afraid of lenses, but they would sit down for hours with him into the late nights (10+ p.m.) coaxing and teaching him how to put those lenses on.

If you need true, honest and careful Ortho-K with a good track record, 10 years speaks volumes. It is not about just one-time thingy, but years of care. I remember the days we could reach them at strange hours, and how when Andrew found out my son was not using the lenses, he just took them back and refunded us. He was always so generous and thoughtful. I was for a moment afraid we lost good support for our eye care and glad we found the legacy in that family once more.

Thought I'd share in case anyone wants to find \"cleeeeeearer and rounnnnnnnnder\" vision, as Andrew used to put it. 🙂
