Had domestic helpers for a few years when kids were small. It’s really a matter of luck to get someone who can match with our temperament. We used to have one whom we thought was good and hardworking, only to discover she stole money from us, and we sent her back. But a few months later, she called from Philippines and next we knew she was on plane. We reckoned if we keep our money and valuables well, she would not be tempted. Eventually we’ve to let her go again becos of her bad habit again. We are on our own since 3+ years. It’s not easy to do the housework but we get by using weekend helper to do the menial work eg wash toilet, wipe the windows, etc. Kids still get well pressed uniforms (the mother insisted on doing the ironing for her kids) and daily change of uniforms, etc. But floor be mopped twice a week and not daily now, eat out (and tried tengkah before can’t din work out), and teaching the kids to clean up after themselves etc. All in all, I guess, we are happier without a live-in domestic helper as the privacy is very much welcome though at times, we wish the house can be cleaner.

Where do you bring your maids for haircut in the east? If maid doesn’t have off says, do you bear the cost of the haircut too?

Snip Avenue near Parkway or any neighbourhood hairdresser.

I bear the cost of everything for them. This includes hand cream, Robert, phone cards, toiletries etc.

Anyone provides gloves to your helper? I prefer her to wear gloves than using hand cream. I offered her gloves but she doesn’t want. I feel like making it compulsory for her to wear. What do you think?

Wah, your maid so atas, still must use handcream? If it messes my stuff, I’ll ask her to wear gloves when working too. Why use handcream when working? Can use at night instead.

If you make her wear gloves she may not be happy and will not follow your orders when you are not supervising. If she doesn't follow it will bring conflict and unhappiness btw the two of you. To avoid this, you would have to give in. To give in, means she has control over you.

if the issue centers around the use of handcream, remove the source of conflict.

I don't think she is atas lah. She doesn't even know how to put on when I offered her one pair and find it very uncomfortable after wearing it. I think she doesn't understand how gloves can protect her hands.

Thanks for the advise. I think I should come up with a story convincing her wear gloves will make her hands very beautiful. 🆒

I don't even wear gloves to wash bowls.
Even when I used to hand wash daughter's clothes donkey years back (when she was a baby), I don't wear gloves either.
