All About Full-Time Maids
-
After reading the unhappiness of employment maids. Luckily my first maid from http://www.besthelper.com.sg which is an Indonesian didn't give me the bad experience. I'm consider lucky to get a good maid at my first try. So far after 1yr 6mths my maid is still quite hard working especially for infant care. But unfortunately she going back on next June as she not going in to recontract. Definitely will go back to the agent for new maids.

It's not easy to find a maid who has initiative. I used to have certain expectations of my maid but after a few changes of maid, I just expect to have a decent maid who can help out with basic household chores. Not expecting any form of initiatives at all.
Yes Yes! Totally agree! Haiyo... Nowadays good maids who has initiative is really hard to find.. Had to keep changing maids. Sometimes is the agency though, some agency keep promoting their maids like very good but when come, all talk only...
BTW, Good Luck in finding a good maid! -
Hi all,
My SIL's maid was crying to her today asking to go home because her hubby is vomiting blood /lung infection etc.. she only worked 1 month less 2 days!
Just want to ask, if she brings the maid to agency --will she get the remainder of the maid loan back?

Had domestic helpers for a few years when kids were small. It’s really a matter of luck to get someone who can match with our temperament. We used to have one whom we thought was good and hardworking, only to discover she stole money from us, and we sent her back. But a few months later, she called from Philippines and next we knew she was on plane. We reckoned if we keep our money and valuables well, she would not be tempted. Eventually we’ve to let her go again becos of her bad habit again. We are on our own since 3+ years. It’s not easy to do the housework but we get by using weekend helper to do the menial work eg wash toilet, wipe the windows, etc. Kids still get well pressed uniforms (the mother insisted on doing the ironing for her kids) and daily change of uniforms, etc. But floor be mopped twice a week and not daily now, eat out (and tried tengkah before can’t din work out), and teaching the kids to clean up after themselves etc. All in all, I guess, we are happier without a live-in domestic helper as the privacy is very much welcome though at times, we wish the house can be cleaner.

Where do you bring your maids for haircut in the east? If maid doesn’t have off says, do you bear the cost of the haircut too?

Snip Avenue near Parkway or any neighbourhood hairdresser.
I bear the cost of everything for them. This includes hand cream, Robert, phone cards, toiletries etc. -
Anyone provides gloves to your helper? I prefer her to wear gloves than using hand cream. I offered her gloves but she doesn’t want. I feel like making it compulsory for her to wear. What do you think?

Wah, your maid so atas, still must use handcream? If it messes my stuff, I’ll ask her to wear gloves when working too. Why use handcream when working? Can use at night instead.

Dear all,
Just wonder what and where do you normally let your maid sleep ? -

If you make her wear gloves she may not be happy and will not follow your orders when you are not supervising. If she doesn't follow it will bring conflict and unhappiness btw the two of you. To avoid this, you would have to give in. To give in, means she has control over you.
if the issue centers around the use of handcream, remove the source of conflict.
