Thanks,7788!
Did your boy enjoy boarding? Ya, one sem is really long! We are all going to miss him if he goes.
Do the boys have to do their own ironing of uniforms while he was there? lol.. even I don't know how to iron shirts/pants (have always had the privilege of someone else doing it for me) and now wondering if I need to teach my son to do it if he ends up in boarding. i also wish they would give us a tour of the Boarding facilities before deciding if we should apply! -
hi lexis,
the boarding school provides laundry and pressing service for up to 22 pcs of clothings each week. so the boys can send their school uniforms for washing and ironing without having to do it themselves. don’t suppose they have so many clothings to iron such that it exceeds the 22pcs even if they wear 5 sets of uniforms and 5 sets of PE attire per week (eg school uniform 2 pcs each day x 5 days + PE attire x 5 sets of 2 for 5 days = 20 pcs). in any case, self-service ironing facility is available for use in case the boys prefer to do it themselves. -
Thanks 7788!.. what a relief to hear that. haha.

Just curious, borading is for Sec3?
-
yes it is. It’s optional. I think for 2016 S3, they have 180 places.

Lexis,
My ds1 stayed in boarding school a few years ago. Song was right, they can leave on Friday (after school or CCA, no fixed timing) and go back on Sunday after dinner.
If you want to bring him out for dinner during weekdays, just ask your DS to inform the teacher in charge of his block/floor, shouldn’t be any issue. But if you are thinking of doing it quite often, you may reconsider if you want him to stay in boarding.
As for things to consider beforehand, here are some of my personal views. For those who stay far from school, it saves some traveling time. For those who want a taste of staying away from home, it could be a good experience. But some kids may get influenced by friends and start to play computer games or play more than at home. The teachers do try to monitor them but we know how difficult it can be. Another thing, the boys are very busy with studies and CCA and other activities, I think they have limited time to interact with boarding friends and build strong bonds over just one semester. -
Thanks for sharing, wonderm!
haha. not thinking of doing it quite often, but definitely once in a while

For those interested in Cross Country, just heard that there is a veteran cross-country coach who is joining the team - Mr Steven Quek!
Mr Quek mentored five of six division winning teams at this year’s National Championship with RI’s four and River Valley High School (Girls ‘B’ Div), as well as three individual gold medals in the Boys ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘C’ divisions.
Go HCI go! -
CatMoon:
is Indigo good?Depends on your son's choice of CCA. Some like track & field or cross country have training 3-4 times a week, including Sat.
Btw for Maths tuition, some HCI kids go to Indigo at Goldhill Square for IP Maths. They follow HCI math schedule quite closely. -

My ds enjoys the lessons, although the worksheets are not as challenging as some of the maths olympiad stuff. His tutor Trevor graduated from Berkeley and during the lull period, they work on maths puzzles.
