      hi all

Has any of your children gone for the Integrated Boarding Programme?

Based on the presentation, i find it quite interesting, but I wish it wasn't for an entire semester! When the kids are in boarding, are we allowed to take them out for dinner at times? And when are they usually released to go home?

Anything else that would be good for parent/child to know before deciding whether to board?

      Thanks!
Don't they come home on weekends?

Hi lexis, I think they will check out on Friday and check in Sunday night. I think if we want to take them out for dinner on normal weekday night we may need to \"apply\". Perhaps it is worthwhile to check with teacher?

          hi Cat moon

Yeah, they do come back on weekends.

thanks, Song 22, i know that the kids can go out for tuition/training etc, but not sure about dinner cos that may defeat the purpose of boarding. 😉

            hi lexis,

yes we can bring the boys out ocassionally for dinner eg. for birthday celebration. don’t have to apply but have to notify in advance so that the canteen won’t keep dinner for them. of course, not everyday.

we can also drop by to visit them during the week but we can’t go to their room. they will have to meet us at a common area within the boarding school.

i also wish that it is just a term-long stay instead of a semester.

Did your boy enjoy boarding? Ya, one sem is really long! We are all going to miss him if he goes.

Do the boys have to do their own ironing of uniforms while he was there? lol.. even I don't know how to iron shirts/pants (have always had the privilege of someone else doing it for me) and now wondering if I need to teach my son to do it if he ends up in boarding. i also wish they would give us a tour of the Boarding facilities before deciding if we should apply!

                hi lexis,

the boarding school provides laundry and pressing service for up to 22 pcs of clothings each week. so the boys can send their school uniforms for washing and ironing without having to do it themselves. don’t suppose they have so many clothings to iron such that it exceeds the 22pcs even if they wear 5 sets of uniforms and 5 sets of PE attire per week (eg school uniform 2 pcs each day x 5 days + PE attire x 5 sets of 2 for 5 days = 20 pcs). in any case, self-service ironing facility is available for use in case the boys prefer to do it themselves.

yes it is. It’s optional. I think for 2016 S3, they have 180 places.

                        Lexis,

My ds1 stayed in boarding school a few years ago. Song was right, they can leave on Friday (after school or CCA, no fixed timing) and go back on Sunday after dinner.

If you want to bring him out for dinner during weekdays, just ask your DS to inform the teacher in charge of his block/floor, shouldn’t be any issue. But if you are thinking of doing it quite often, you may reconsider if you want him to stay in boarding.

As for things to consider beforehand, here are some of my personal views. For those who stay far from school, it saves some traveling time. For those who want a taste of staying away from home, it could be a good experience. But some kids may get influenced by friends and start to play computer games or play more than at home. The teachers do try to monitor them but we know how difficult it can be. Another thing, the boys are very busy with studies and CCA and other activities, I think they have limited time to interact with boarding friends and build strong bonds over just one semester.
