SINGAPORE : A 10-year-old boy has been injured after his foot was caught in an escalator at VivoCity.
The incident took place at about 12.45pm on Sunday.
The boy was travelling on the escalator with his parents when the shoe on his right foot got caught in the escalator.
Staff at VivoCity managed to release his foot from the escalator and the boy was sent to Singapore General Hospital (SGH) for treatment.
An SGH spokesperson said the boy received treatment for cuts and his condition is stable.

Wonder whether the boy was wearing a pair of crocs? :?
-
well, fairly sure the boy is playing on the escalator/not observing rules.
DS1 is ok - he’ll avoid the yellow lines since we’ve taught him.
DS2 will purposedly touch the yellow lines.
End of the day: Parents have to be aware! -
After previous CROCS incident, we are very particular when kids are on the escalator. We will watch them to make sure they are standing in the middle and not the side. We also kept reminding them about the CROCS incident where the kid lost their toe.
With this new incident, given that the child is 10 yrs old. We will let them read the news again and remind them. Cannot take for granted that already 10 yrs old, risk level is lower. -
Typically we stand in the middle too. I often wonder how the trapping can happen unless one is fidgeting alot while travelling on the escalator and the shoes are very soft.
I am strict about behaviour at all times to cultivate as a habit so no exceptions on escalator. I tell my child there is always a right time and a right place to play. Hope this helps her even when I am not present. -
I still can't visualise how could any shoe get caught by the escalator. :?

Hard for me to imagine too.... If only someone has ever captured it on video.....

I notice, the escalators at Vivo is faster than other shopping malls escalators. I always have to pay extra attention when taking escalators there. Can the accident due to the speed?
-
faster?
The impression I have is only those escalators at MRT stations are generally faster than normal. -
