Anyone can share where to go to get ADHD tested? What kind of occupation therapy or training for child to manage the ADHD issue.

Bring your child to KK hospital, child guidance clinic.
They will book an appointment to let you (parent) meet up with a child educational psychologist, who will ask you lots of detailed question about your son's learning behavior at home, in pre-school.

They will pass 3 sets of form (questions asked very specific, very detailed), for feedback about your son's learning / studying behavior at home, in school.

- your son's Form Teacher, in preschool / kindergarten / primary school, need to fill up one form, for feedback.
If you have ever transferred your son from one pre-school to another previously : choose a Form Teacher to fill up the form, that had been teaching your child, for the longest period of time.

- your son's external, outside tuition / enrichment Teacher (can include both academic, plus non-academic), need to fill up a second form, for feedback.
Choose a tuition / enrichment Teacher, to pass the form to fill up, that had been teaching your child, for the longest period of time.

- you (parents), need to fill up the third form.


Child educational psychologist will also help to fix an appointment, to let occupational therapist inside KK hospital assess him.
After assessing the child, occupational therapist will write a report, submit report to the educational psychologist.

Based on feedback received from school Teacher, tuition teacher, parent, occupational therapist, etc, educational psychologist will then discuss with you (parent) the behavior, cause of your son's symptom, manifestation, condition, and advise parent accordingly how to help an ADHD child to focus, concentrate, in his studies. Every ADHD child is unique, different. Educational psychologist will follow up with you & son, at regular interval.

Whether an ADHD child need medication or not, parents will also be advised, accordingly. Not all need.

It is better to let the educational psychologist assess your child, before he start Primary 1 soon.

If your child face difficulty in daily routine, from the time your kid wake up to sitting down at desk to do homework, inform the psychologist. She will guide you step by step, how to help your child.

You may print out a daily timetable routine in excel spreadsheet form, show to the psychologist that these are the list of simple daily tasks u like your son to do daily : ask her for advice, how to implement, in small step, one step at a time ?
Psychologist had seen many similar cases to yours, some parents had feedback to psychologists how their method work after some time practice on their own child, because other parents got to meet up with psychologist, on regular basis too. This way, through the psychologist, u can learn from other ADHD parents, who are in similar plight as you. You don't feel so lonely, in your uphill struggle. Tackle the problem now, when he is still young.

After start Primary 1, if child unable to sit still in a class of 30 pupils, day dream, restless, bored, get distracted, walk around the class, go up to the front touch whiteboard, crawl under a table or make some noise inside classroom while lessons going, Form Tr will contact parent.

Has your child been tested by an educational psychologist? Usually, they will highlight the issues in their report. Many of the techniques to modify behaviour for both ASD and ADHD are similar as they are directed at the behaviour, not the cause.

my son is 4 years old and undergoing speech therapy (speech delay) with KK since last year.

He is also seeing a psychologist since march this year as he is showing some behavioural issues at home and in school. Also showing signs of ADHD but as he is too young, pyschologist said will wait till he is older to confirm.

Have changed 2 schools and current school feels he is not benefiting fr the program and now need to look for another school.

We are thinking of sending him to a special schools. Psychologist have given us a list of the special needs school. She also mentioned that it’s not necessary to go to a special needs school but need a school which have routines, boundaries and strict discpline.

Currently looking at Kits4Kids, YWCA educational support unit and Zee School house. Any parents who have kids there? Can share views in the schools? Thank you.

I used to put my son at YWCA CCC as there is an LSP teacher. She was an excellent teacher but has since left the service. However, she only worked with my son 2x a week and the rest of the time, teachers had to handle my ASD son. My helper used ti shadow him during the 4 hours of school (half day cos teachers could not handle him).

Hi Parents,

i believe my child is hyperactive, and many a times disturbs the class. The teacher is not happy too. she likes to control by shouting, which i explained to her that it will not help for more than few minutes.
I would like to change the school and try with some other teachers which are patient and innovative and new environment.
Do any of you have good experience in any kindergarten at West Coast or Jurong East with Hyperactive kids?

Understand ADHD comprises of either Attention Deficit, Hyperactivity and Impulsivity or both.


Would also like to find out if anyone go for medical treatment and the side effects (if any)?

Hi, ADHD can’t be medically treated. The meds are used to control the hyperactivity. Kids on meds tend to have a dowsed look. It is also best to consider very carefully if your kid really needs meds.
