All About Parent Volunteers (PV)

Thanks for the tips. So far, I have no chance to observe the classroom teaching or during recess time. I hope to be able to do so too. I'm more observant now on the school's environment. I'm thinking if I don't complete the PV hours or don't register my kid in phrase 2B for this school, this means that I have to go through phrase 2C in another school and this school has to go through balloting. So risky.

Better to call the school to check. The school I pv required a within 2km address on the application form. Even the no of hours required to pv vary from school to school. -
Hi all,
How do I apply to be a PV?
I tried to email the school but no reply.
Do I have to call them up?

Hi mummy/daddy
I’m interested to apply for PV at SCGS but heard that their intake is low every year and it’s hard to be selected. Can anyone share your experience if you’ve been selected as a PV at SCGS? What is their selection process and criteria and how can we increase our chance of being selected?
Thank you for your help in advance! -

If you visit the Novena schools thread 2 -3 years back (do a search), some parents did mention that SCGS only selects around 2-5 PVs a year, very secretive on the selection criteria. Heard some of the PVs only do specialised work such as create Accounting software, teach ballet CCA etc. It depends on what they need. No traffic wardens, morning reading kind of jobs. Bear in mind that even high fliers have been rejected.Hi mummy/daddy

You will have a higher chance of getting a seat if you live within 1km of the school. This year was shocking as they had many places left for Phase 2C. There were many people >1km who got into the school without the need to volunteer.
So just apply for PV and watch the situation next year. If you get rejected for PV and still want the seat, move closer to the school and observe. Plan B would be St Margaret's. -
Thanks for your tips. I’ll check out the Novena school discussion thread. Some people said you will only get selected for PV if you have the connection. We currently do not stay within 2km and it’s hard to decide if we should move closer if we don’t know if we will get selected for PV. I’m sure many parents out there face similar challenges too.
