Agree! Especially science, too rigid.. it has to be the 'model' answer. You have to use the exact word eg, strong =/= hard etc..To score well for science, we have to master the technique of answering, knowing the facts is not enough.janet88:
i totally agree what the professor mentioned.
\"Most of our students acquire knowledge just to pass exams, and they do not really enjoy the learning process,\" Prof Tan told the Chinese evening daily

from beginning to end, it's all about learning how to pass exams...for example doing past year exam papers which has been going on all these years. -

I know Wang (Chinese) and Science Alive (Sci) have pretty good PSLE preparatory holiday camps.Hi all,
Any headstart PSLE camp to recommend for this Nov/Dec holiday?
My DS is P5 this year.
Once term 1 starts for p6, the teachers are going to teach like bullet trains with lots of 'loadings' - from my DDs' experiences. Being kiasu, it's good to prepare them this holi, but let them play hard too cos they may not have much time to enjoy once term 1 starts. -

will it be like spotting questions?
:? Spotting is if you learn the answers only for that particular question instead of clarifying concepts.ammonite:
past year exam papers is not a way to revise...it can only be done after revision is completed.
janet88, actually I do find past year papers a fast way to revise. From the papers, you can find out what the child doesn't know, then revise accordingly. This you don't have to waste time going through everything. -
I use mostly past year papers and mock exam assessments for revisions, topical assessment books are used only when there are areas that need revisiting. When kids were younger and require more supervision and handholding in their revision. I will make them do a couple of exam papers for each subject, look through and see where their mistake lie. Thereafter, I zoom in on those mistakes, go through with them, make them do 1 or 2 set of topical assessment on that topic and back to past year papers and mock exam papers to see if they understand and are able to apply.
As they progress, I taught them to self correct and find their own answers, told them they have to be honest about it, if even having the answers and they do not understand, must ask. DS is better at that. DD will ignore. So cannot totally hands off gotta check their work and corrections and give them my version of ‘pop’ quiz to make sure they understand. -
ammonite:
thanks. still green managing revision for this child.

Hi just asking, have you all decided on the sec school your DD or ds will be going? I am staying at Tampines. Any suggestion of good sec school nearby?
My ds marks are around this range at P5.
