1) I didn't have any personal encounter on that aspect (Caring staff, caring students). But i do hear it from other parents how they get various help from the staff and students.Hi Dao,
Thanks for sharing with us about how your daughter is doing at EPPS.
Would you mind sharing more on -
1) School culture - Caring staff, caring students?
2) Does the school focus on Art? My boy loves art.
3) How do you find the communication ties between parents n teachers/principal? Is it open and collaborative?
I'm deciding between Park View and EPPS for my son registering in 2016.
TIA.
2) Not too sure about that. But I do see many art pieces from students on the walls in the school to showcase.
3) There are newsletter, workshops, letters to parents. I have no other school for comparison. But I think it is open and collaborative. The Parent Support Group (PSG) is strong. If you join PSG, you have a even closer communication with the school. -
Hi parents of EPPS,
I have a few questions as follows:
1) Currently the top classes in Elias are still Courage
and Diligence (D) ? Or only Courage
?
2) It is from P3 onwards, there will be streaming yearly based on their score?
3) Does EPPS has higher Chinese? if so, will be started from which grade? -

1) The students are grouped into classes in C, D, ... based on EL and Math (if I'm not wrong). Not sure if Science is included. Hence, one can't really say the students in C is better than D... unless you can talking about EL and Math only.
2) Yes, P2 results will be used for the streaming/grouping... and I understand that it'll be done for every year onwards. However, the change in students are not too great.
3) EPPS has HCL. Offered to students using P4 results, starting in P5. Students with all subjects getting Band 1 in P4 will be offered (not compulsory to take it). P5 results will be used to review whether to continue or to \"drop\" to normal CL. The results to remain in HCL is made known to parents during P4 presentation to parents. -

1. So far, my 2 children have met very caring teachers. As my children have food allergies, the teachers will help to ensure that they are fine during activities that involved food.
2. I am not sure about the weekly art lesson, but their art lessons are unlike the \"Global Art\" type of art works/lessons. EPPS has pottery/claywork. There are dance and music lessons/CCA if you are thinking in this aspect.
3. The teachers can be reached via email or a call to the general office. Some teachers do give their personal mobile phone number, but I think one should refrain from calling their personal number unless it is really urgent. If you want to speak to the P/VPs (which I have not done so), you can email the school or speak to them during dialogue sessions. -

Hi, I see that Dao had answered your questions. But may I add that:Hi Dao,
Thanks for the reply. Few more questions:-
1) any enrichment classes/services?
2) transport services?
3) CCA?
4) strong areas like Chinese orchestra, sports, etc.
5) tuition class?
Pl assist.
1. Non-academic 'enrichments' are:
P1 to P3 have PAL which are lessons in the sport/art/outdoor edu aspect.
P4-P6 have MOCCA, where students will learn life skills, Aesthetics, sports, Science & Tech.
2. There are school buses, you need to check this during the Pri 1 Orientation held in Nov.
3. There are various CCA like Volleyball, Chinese Orchestra, Dance, Table Tennis and Pottery (I think).
4. Strong CCA are Volleyball and Chinese Orchestra. The students (especially the girls) in Volleyball can use DSA to go to rather popular Sec sch in the east (if this is what your intention was when you ask this question).
5. I heard that students who are weak in EL (P1 and P2) have remedial class.
All students, from P3 onwards ,will have extra CL lessons (optional). -
I am new to this thread. Just want to share my experience as a parent of the school. Sending my child to this school was the worst decision of my life. During the Psle year, there were no extra classes. No supplementary classes and no remedial classes too, only 2 weekly half an hour Science lessons held in the mornings before assembly. Very unlike other schools. A lot of dependency on children’s parents to send them for tuition. Many worksheets were not marked and some were not gone through. I do not know why the teachers asked them to do in the first place.
As for caring teachers, only the Chinese teachers and a few others from other departments are really dedicated.
As for other teachers, well, if your child is one of the top ones, there will be lots of opportunities for him/her. There are excursions and overseas trips etc only for selected ones as always. -
Hello to all parents whose child(ren) is/are at EPPS,
I am considering in enrolling my child to EPPS. Would appreciate if someone could share :
1. how is the school environment ?
2. How are the principal’s and teachers’ attitude towards students? Passionate towards teaching ? Or heck care type? Or overstressed on the results type?
3. I believe you had the chance to observe the other students be it same class as your child or the seniors. What is the first impression of their attitude? I heard some schools’ students are being labeled as ‘naughty’.
4. Do you think you have made the right decision in choosing EPPS?
TIA! -

1. The school environment is ok. Not sure what exactly you are looking at, but it feels normal. Currently there is construction in the school to build Indoor Sports Hall.
2. The Principal has been there since 2011 (I think).
So far my kids' teachers are all passionate towards caring and teaching them. Many of them communicate with parents through various means such as SMSes, emails and Class-dojo. The kids are made to copy down important messages into their student's handbook when necessary. Some teachers give their handphone number for communication purpose but, as parents, we have to be mindful that these are their private number and should not disturb the teachers.
MT: The school used to have enrichment/supplementary classes for mother tongue but not any more.
Science: However, they have started a Science extra lesson every Thursday morning to help the P6 students brush up their answering technique.
Maths: Students from different classes have different Maths assessment book.
I do not feel that the school emphasises on academic achievement.
3. To be fair to EPPS, most schools have a wide variety of types of students. I think if you walk into any primary school, there will be the 'well-behaved' and the 'naughty' types. The kids nowadays are different. I guess we, the parents, are responsible for the behaviour of the kids since there is nothing much the teachers or school can do to discipline the children except to scold them when necessary. My children said that their classes can be noisy at times. However, the STELLAR (English programme) is supposed to inculcate outspokenness in the students.
Handphones are strictly no no, but I heard from my elder boy that some of his friends bring handphon to school. Though they do not use them in class.
4. I am glad my kids go to EPPS. The school also have arty programme to instill the appreciation of art (clay/pottery) and music (all students will learn a different Chinese Orchestra instrument every year) in the students. EPPS is also strong in volleyball and table tennis. [But I understand that Park View Pri Sch has a stronger sports scene].
For us, it is important that the school is within walking distance from our house without the need to cross any roads. Should there be any enrichment/supplementary classes and the kids are old enough, they can walk home on their own without us worrying.
In fact, if you have time, you can go to the back gate of the school (near Blk 511) during dismissal time (all days - 2.05pm; except Wed - 1.30pm) to take a look. Some of them walk home from there own their own and you can observe the students' behaviour too.
Hope this help. -

Thanks for the advise. I do agree every school has \"good and bad\" students and it is parents' job to educate the kids. The purpose of my enquiry is to know what are the parents' opinion on the school this year as previous posts were from a few years ago. So, not sure if parents still feel the same way (based on previous posts, seems like negative comments > positive). Nevertheless, the school will organise a tour and I will assess from there. Thanks again... -
My Pri 1 child enrolled in Jan 17. To-date, I can objectively say the form teacher and Chinese teacher are both very communicative in that they provide parents with weekly updates on what has been taught, what homework needs to be completed by the child and handed up the following day, reminders on the upcoming tests and excursions etc.
Regarding the comment that the school does not focus on academic achievement, it is too early (for me) to tell as my child has only been with the school for 4 months. Perhaps parents of the older children in EPPS can comment.
