I have seen students with shocking results. Assumed did very well..end up only average.. bell curve..
Never be over confident.. hope for the best but prepared for the worse.
One friend's son in NYPS, expecting at least 25X.
The mom was shocked, when her son's Psle T-score turned out 231.
Panic, she wanted her son to enter ACS Barker Secondary, but couldn't, because too many affliated students inside ACS.
being an outsider, 231 cannot get into ACS.
In the end, entered a neighbourhood school, not her ideal, nor her son's ideal Secondary school.
As for NYPS girls -
although affliated to NYGH, but if they fail to meet Cut-off-point (COP) 250 or above (like those who scored 22X / 23X / 24X), they also goto other neighbourhood schools in the end, since they do not meet NYGH COP. -
It is common for results to end up not in line with what was originally expected. This is nothing surprising. I do have some weak students who are in danger of going to NA but they scored 230+ while others who are expected to do well… end up with much lower scores… I observed similar scenario for the last > than 10 years. But of course most will be within expectation. Why parents in this thread are concerned? For me, I think expectations must be right and always ready for the unexpected whether good or bad.
It is known that the easier the paper… the more the bell curve affects the final results. Share something about my cousin. She entered IP school with 262 PSLE score. End up told to leave at the end of year 4. Went to poly. While the rest of us with lower scores thrived. PSLE does not determine ur future. It is how u manage after PSLE that determines. -
let's consider the mid-point case
usually 22X, 230 are achievable, by most students
Because 21X, 22X are average T-score, can be attained
anything from 235 upwards : can be tough
suppose 3 kids (not affliated to any Secondary school) :
(din want to discuss affliated primary schools, bec they already have the privilege, security of safety net. Some just need 200, can go back O level)
one got T-score 225, another 235, third got 245
with 225, 235 and 245 : IP schools already out
which are the better \"O\" level schools left, to choose ? -

I noticed the parents or kids who posted in here are mainly from top schools or better schools. Maybe you do not know many from the neighborhood schools. I remember I got to know a parent with kids in nyps. When they asked me which school my kids are from, they went \"What? Where is the school? Never heard of it.\"
I can tell you, in a neighborhood school, it is not easy to achieve above 230. In a better neighborhood school, kids from 2nd or 3rd class should be able to get 230. I even know quite a few in the 2nd class who got 210 only. But in a not very popular neighborhood school, most of their 1st class kids can only get 230-240. Last yr, 1 neighborhood school had only 5 or 6 who got 250 & above. We are talking about 1st class. When you ask around, you will notice that parents from these schools are happy that their kids can go express or schools like Anderson Sec, BPGH, Riverside Sec, Nan chiau High, zhonghua sec.. To them, these schools are considered as \"very good\" schools. And recently, I heard from a tutor that her student got above 260 in prelims. But the kid added that this is not the best estimate for psle. School teacher told the kid to deduct 20 marks from the prelims.

It is so strange for the case. Did your cousin doing the o-level ? I know the Rgs's GPA only 2.0, can be promoted to ri. May I know which sec school she was in last time ? :thankyou: -

a friend's child got 276...went to IP school. parents asked to see teacher. child sent overseas in the middle of Year 4.

She was from RVHS.. did not do O levels at all... direct Sec 4 to SP.. in between details I m not sure but I know for sure she has no O level cert.
