Not only good Tr from the school, but also u have raised your 2 kids very well, to be responsible in self learning, no need to rely on any tuition, and have good character. You have done a great job in parenting. keep it up !

To me a school is a good and top school when it can bring out the best in every pupil, not just the HA pupils but even the weakest performing pupil.

My 2 kids came from two different so-called Neighbourhood schools. My elder kid's school had about 25 pupils obtaining 250 and above, mainly from the 1st class. My second kid's school had about 40+ pupils obtaining above 250 from 2-3 classes, with 28 from the 1st class. These two Neighbourhood schools were able to produce a fairly good percentage of above average performers. My elder kid's school had 100% PSLE passes almost yearly but my second kid's school which produced 40+ Scorers of 250 & above had 97% passes for that year. The school also did not see 100% passes in other years.

Parents and kids from 'branded' schools are clueless about other Singapore primary schools besides their own? Now look who's being 'sua ku'? How big is Singapore? The sad thing is people tend to measure one's worth from the school one goes to. Be it primary or secondary. The intrinsic value in a person matters no more. It's all about grades and status.

Let me tell you something. The high achievers in most primary schools (mainstream & GEP) are the more worrisome lot. They have good grades and that's it. Good character building in them is next to non-existent. I can attest to that based on my observations and the feedback given after DSA camps in secondary schools. Most of them have over-fed egos. Many are downright spoilt brats and you know by who. Parents need to get radical with their kids that good character is more important than grades.

For me, I am very grateful that that my two kids had moved on to their ideal secondary schools through sheer hard work and determination. One scored 271 and the other 249 for PSLE. To me, both my kids had outperformed themselves and they are bright shining stars in my eyes. With no private tuition, all these would not have been possible without the dedication and support of teachers from their so-called unbranded primary schools.

Whatever results a child has managed in the PSLE, as long as the child has outperformed himself/herself or done his best, that is truly what matters.

your kids are amazing and they have done beautifully...the schools they studied have wonderful teachers who dedicated themselves to teaching well and thus no need for tuition. there should be more of such teachers...why do parents have to send kids to school and then engage tutors? your children's schools have proven that it is possible for teachers to go all out to teach.

you do not need to put down GEP and high achiever student while talk so proudly about how yr kid has done so well. These kids are not that is it. They are children from parent who come from humble backgroud too.

1. i assume teachers will not mark their own schools' papers?
2. only p6 teachers are involved?
3. each paper is marked by 2 teachers?

the psle exam scripts are split into clusters. for eg bukit timah pri scripts will be marked by teachers from mgs. according to my friend who has been marking exam scripts, she told me one section is marked by 6 teachers...it's like production line. if there is any discrepancy, they will escalate to chief marker.

Hi Janet, has your teacher friend who marks the psle papers, given any feedback about how the students have fared in this year's PSLE?

I hope my DS had done well... still feeling nervous and anxious even though PSLE is over. I kind of drag the day for release of PSLE results.

Can any parent share what your p6 kids are doing in school everyday after the exams? My DS is so bored and he said there was nothing exciting happening in school everyday. No sports or outdoor activities allowed due to the haze. Only play board games or read in class. No more lessons and the teachers leave the children to their own devices. The only excursion they had was to visit the plant whereby NEW water is manufacturerd. Actually the school has a yearly 3-day trip to Malacca but thus time round is cancelled due to the haze, much to the disappointment of the children. The haze really spoils the celebrative mood of this year's post-PSLE days. :gloomy:

Do remember asking her how kids fared before…she told me it’s hard to tell because every teacher only marks a small section…those 4 days are very stressful…lunch is provided, after 1 hour…it’s back to marking again. Almost like teachers sitting for PSLE themselves.

wah, stressful for P6 Tr going to different school, marking Psle.

die die ... they have to finish marking, by end of day 4
(that's why school provide lunch for them, no time to wander outside to eat)

any idea which primary school Teacher been assigned (based on your cluster by school zone), to come over mark your son's school psle papers ?
this provide more accurate feedback, because Janet's friend marking scripts, may come from a different zone cluster, from your son's school.

The standard of primary schools, across different zone cluster, may differ, although all P6 students sat for same, common Psle papers

eg
if a primary school is in the east, then P6 Tr from the east zone cluster, will go to different schools also in the east, to mark students' answers

Teachers are to report to a center…keep their bags and mobile phones inside locker. Then mark according to cluster. It’s like 8 teachers marking one section…so there is no way all will miss out any mistakes. The first 2 days, markers will be more on the ball…by 3rd day, they are mentally tired…pray hard your papers are marked towards the end.
