Thanks for your great advice! Have just decided to go Tokyo for cny holidays so no research done yet. Sorry for the boring qn!

Can I just seek your quick recommendation again on nice quaint countryside towns outside of Tokyo reachable by train, something like a day or 2 trip? Appreciate it!

You can try Nikko, Yokohama or Nagano. 😃

In Dec Nagano may have snow šŸ˜‚
can try check out Prince Nagano Ski resort[/quote]Yes, one of the Prince ski resorts in Nagano - Karuizawa Prince Ski resort - may have a bit of snow in early December. But that's still very early in the winter/snow season though. The snow doesn't really get going until mid-December or later. We've been to Karuizawa twice in mid-December and there was enough snow (natural and human-assisted) to ski on.

Karuizawa is about an hour by bullet train from Tokyo Station.

        Hi djl

If I remember correctly, you had recommended a weblink Goodsports to get good deal Ski rentals. The rental price is attractive as compare with the rest but I am worried about the conditions of the ski gears/boots. Can you share your experience ? I saw from the online link they have a office in Niseko and Chitose airport. Did u pick up your gears from airport? or at your ski acommodation ? If got problem if ski halfway, anywhere I can do an exchange? I will be staying in Hirafu. Thanks

A mummy left http://kidsonboard.net/blog/photo-essay/karuizawa-prince-hotel-in-nagano/. It does seem easy to get to, and to navigate...

My kids are STILL having exams till next week - I can't wait for it all to be over and for the hols to start! Reading the travel forum on KSP has this calming effect on me šŸ˜‚

Can someone recommend a good & comfortable hotel to stay for 3 adults in Tokyo downtown? Budget abt $200-$300 per night. Preferably near main bus station & train station, close to eateries/supermarket & places to shop & explore. Thanks!

How do we ask locals for directions? Most cannot speak English right?
