Usually RA class GPA average is quite high, it could be more than 3.6. And also because the formula of GPA, core 5 subjects + 2 best subjects, it can avoid the lowest GPA to be calculated. My girl is at RA class, her GPA is more than 3.6 and she still consider that she is not good as her classmate majority are 4.0. Their GPA could be more than 3.9. I can not believe it as I always think if u get nearly 3.6, that is very good GPA as it comes from Rgs.

That's true. For RA classes, scoring overall 3.6 finds you at the lower end of the class, whereas 3.6 would probably have you at the higher end of other classes. It's a little intimidating to be in a RA class where everyone seems to score nothing but 4.0 for individual subjects with an occasional 3.6.

      Finding it hard to digest...
I would have thot 3.6 is good enough.
Thanks for sharing, jtoh and gardenia64.

Thanks Jtoh. Certainly hope that DD will find Years 3 & 4 just as enjoyable and fulfilling.

3.6 is definitely \"good enough\" by nearly anyone's standards! As parents, I think we should assess our child based on effort rather than purely grades, since every child has different innate abilities. I remember telling my daughter before she started at RGS that she could find herself in the middle or lower, but that as long as she had put in a good effort, it was fine. After all, if you compare with the top 3% (I think?) of students and come in at the bottom, it's still good!

I see. My initial thot was trend downward, as it gets more challenging and difficult in Yr 3-4.

What is considered as 'average' in Yr 3-4.
Is 3.4 good enough? Or my expectation is too low?

The school should be sharing with your girls the trends for previous years. I can't recall what the average is in Years 3/4. Maybe slmkhoo can recall as her dd is in Year 4.

Sorry, I don't know. I don't know if my daughter has heard, or if she told me. My daughter is one of those who doesn't like to compare results, so we only see hers and rarely know what is happening in the rest of her class, let alone in the school. She was in a non-RA class, so the students were not the very strong ones.

Yes, the 3.6 was referring to giftedgem's class. So your under 3.0 average GPA is for your dd's Year 4 class? That is on the low side. That would mean some of the students not being able to pursue 4H2 subjects in Years 5/6?

I remember being told the stats during briefings. They're not released as printed stats but in briefings to the students and parents, to give them an idea of trends and where they're headed.
Again, I don't know! My daughter hasn't mentioned if there are those who will only take 3 H2s next year. I just know her grades, and that's all. Based on this year's founder's day awards, not all the girls who got the outstanding excellence award for Yr3 (about 11 in total) had an overall GPA of 4.0, so I don't think overall GPA of 4.0 is that common.

If the school would make more stats known, we wouldn't have to speculate like this!

Do RGS Girls attend tuition class?

My DD does for Chinese and I have heard her mention that some of her friends do for various subjects.

For my DD, I would just look at the median as a guide and her personal effort. Some girls focus on other aspects of the programme so their GPAs may take a bit of a hit.

                    ACTC:
As far as I know, EESIS continues automatically as long as the student is promoted from year to year and stays in the same school. For RGS girls it is for 6 years. I personally do not know of anyone whose EESIS was threatened.

Yes, that is true. On the contrary if one is not awarded EESIS base on PSLE T-score, the chances of getting the E(IS)YA : Edusave (Independent Schools) Yearly Awards is extremely slim. The EISYA is awarded to the top 5% of each cohort by level in each IS based on their school examination results for the year. To qualify for top 5% where most of her cohort are already the top 3% of PSLE, it is near impossibility.

My daughter's just missed last year's EESIS cut-off by a fraction. Apparently some with T-Score of 257 was awarded but she wasn't. Her Y1 GPA was >3.7 and should be considered average but definitely not top 5%.

I read that those meeting P6 GEP promotion criteria also will be given EESIS. What is meeting p6 GEP promotion means?
Actually moe should change the policy for granting the EISYA of the student in Rgs can get more than 3.6 GPA, should consider very good GPA ready. Moe should grant those students for EISYA ready as even students who got EESIS at year 1 may not get GPA greater than 3.6. It is not fair for them as top 5% of each cohort by level in each IS based on their school examination usually has EESIS.

The EISYA award criterion of being top 5% in the cohort for non-ESSIS holder is almost impossible. The COP for RGS was 258 last year, which means most of the students are EESIS holders i.e. top 3% of the PSLE. If anyone who is non ESSIS and achieve top 5% in the cohort, it must really be an exception.

Yes. It is true. It is impossible to get top 5% at Rgs. This is why I am thinking moe should change their rules. Making the criteria is impossible rather than it does not have.
