Giggler1:
Is there a possibility to repeat P6 nowadays?
Only a very very very small percentage repeat P6. Thereafter they may go on to Northlight or Crest Sec school, where the curriculum is customised for them. -

Why don't you speak to the teachers and see if you can find out why they put her in standard instead of foundation? Does the school have an existing foundation class and what is the class size?daughter just called me from school.
she said she will be taking standard subjects next year.
the science tutor gave me something to think about...if she is weak, standard science might affect overall grades because it is really not easy for someone academically weak. i'm really at a loss now. -

I hope my Niece receives the same good news. -

you think it's a waste not to try Standard Science?since school has offered your girl P6 standard Science, means school confident that she can do it. Hence, let her try first.
If after trying find that need to switch, next year 2016 by end of Term 2, can switch over to Foundation Science ?
call up SEAB, confirm by when latest : can a P6 student switch over from Standard Science, to Foundation Science ?
(because seems like a waste, if don't try Standard Science)
do give her lots of encouragement, every little slight improvement made, praise her, don't compare her with her classmates.
p6 science is not easy because it includes both upper and lower block...just looking at the sheer amount of topics gives me the goose bumps.
called up to speak to HOD...the school does support foundation science.
but switching from standard to foundation at p6 is another issue...because school has to register the students to SEAB for PSLE and that takes time.
with this girl, I have very little expectations...as long as she makes progress, we reward and praise her...no matter how small the progress is. -

over the weekend, I was stressed over the subject combination.

then tutor advised me that foundation may not be a bad idea for her since she is having difficulties with science.
this morning, daughter happily called me saying she is doing 3 standard.
going through a roller coaster of emotions now.
her school does offer foundation science.
even if she does foundation science for psle, her overall results for PSLE can still justify for express course in Sec 1...though the number is very low. I'm at a loss either way

Don't worry and don't panic, Janet. Your daughter will be fine. For now, don't think so far ahead. I know it is easier said than done but worrying and over-thinking about PSLE will lead all to have an anxiety attack and it's not even 2016 yet.

Just work on the now and pace yourself and your girl for next year. I would tell the Science tutor that your girl is doing Standard and that the tutor has to partner with you to help your girl. The last thing your girl should hear is for the tutor to keep saying that she deserves only to be in \"foundation\". What your girl needs from the tutor and teachers is encouragement, and helping your girl believe that she will perform her best. -

going through a roller coaster of emotions now.
Perhaps get another opinion from an experienced teacher or HOD or even vice-principal, then decide. If you aim to help your daughter to secure a place in NA, it may be better to do standard Science as she would have less difficulties with secondary Science. She may develop better study skills with time. Sometimes it boils down to study skills and understanding of concepts. If she is a kinesthetic learner, may be good to do small and simple experiments with her, so that abstract concepts are made more concrete. If it is phrasing of explanation, personally I think that's more a language issue.
If she is fairly strong in Maths or English, then it may be good to do standard Science. If she is generally very weak in Maths, then perhaps you may want to consider foundation Science.
Perhaps find out exactly what's her area of weakness in Science. There are different strategies for different areas of weakness. -
This line speaks volumes to me. It shows that your girl wants to do standard Science. Believe that she can do it so that she will. -
Thanks, happy mum. I will find out more about Northlight and Crest Sec School.

hi ladies,
I appreciate all your kind words and encouragement. :grphug:
she scored above 30 for her subjects....so the teacher and principal is giving her a chance to do standard. I know I seem negative in requesting that she does foundation for science. the reason is because she is weak and the open ended section requiring the 'explain your answer' requires skill to handle.
but Schweppes did highlight to me about daughter's excitement in wanting to do standard science and I should be positive and allow her to take this route.
