My intell is probably very dated. But basically, SHHK schools no longer accept PV from outside. BUT SHHK members who want that letter can opt to do PV work. Thanks hquek.
So anyone know how does shhk issue recommendation letters? I m pretty confused as there's seem to be PV within Shhk ? isn't PV \"control\" by the school?
SHHK gives weightage on various factors like how long one is a member, how many hours of PV clocked (either for SHHK activities or in the schools), etc etc (the details are not publicly available).
Each year, after 2A2, clan will know how many letters they can issue per school. Then based on the demand (members send in their applications I think in April or earlier, in the letter, parent would have to decide which school to try letter for), they will have a cutoff. So some parents who are members say for only 1 year would not get the letter whilst other sleeping members who have been there for 10 years would get it.
NOTE. SHHK is not obliged to issue letters to ALL SHHK members who apply - it's their prerogative. Also, getting the letter only gives one the right to apply during Phase 2B - there is NO GUARANTEE that the letter means child is in the school. Phase 2B include grassroots leaders so that can be a vagary. Should demand during 2B be higher than supply, then the distance criteria will kick in - else all will get in. the past stats should be a good barometer. -

hquek has explained the mechanics of the caregiver address. So if you do declare the grandparents as the caregiver, you will fall within 1-2km in both phase 2B (assuming you get the recommendation letter from SHHK) and 2C. You may also want to know that tenure of your SHHK membership counts towards getting the letter as well. You will have to sign up well in advance before P1 application as per some earlier comments. The grandparent address is less than 2km
Unfortunately, the bad news is 1-2km means you have an extremely low chance to ballot in Phase 2B for Ai Tong. The recommendation letter (if you get it) and putting in those volunteer hours won't guarantee you anything. The possibility of not even getting a chance to ballot is extremely high (and if you do get a chance to ballot, the competition for places will be intense).
If you miss the 2B boat, you have zero chance for Phase 2C within 1-2km for Ai Tong. You will need at least a back up for Phase 2C. -

My friend was a clan member and he was staying within 2 km to the school, but in the end he didn't even get a chance to register in Phase 2B. You only have the chance if you're staying within 1km. My advise to you is to consider other school. My advise to him was to volunteer in Kuo Chuan to get into Phase 2B, but he insisted to try Ai Tong. In the end he couldn't get into either schools as he's also within 2 km to Kuo Chuan.

I used to be fixated on a SHHK school because I didn't have any other information - during that time, I had the option to shift house to be within 1km even. But I made backup plans all the same and my kids went to another school that made much more logistic sense. No regrets really because they had fun and learnt well at the other school. So do cast your net and not just focus on one school.

Dear all,
My gal is born in 2011 and I would like to join SHKK. Am not sure if still in time for the recommendation letter for Ai Tong, but still worth a try.
Any parents here who are existing members and can be sponsors will be greatly appreciated! :please:
Thank you in advance!

Are you staying within 1km of Aitong first ? If not forget it, almost zero chance even you get recommendations letter.
2011 kid basically you are too late, from hear say the past few years they gave out letter to members with at least 4 years. My friend join SHHK right after her baby was born. You can call up SHHK to confirm before departing with your few hundreds $$$ :moneyflies: -
