Table Spoon:
Which program is more stressful, the Nanyang- Hwa Chong IP program or the VCA program? My daughter offered both via DSA. Still thinking about which to put as first option. Any comments?
Hi, I think this qn depends if you are 'brand-conscious' or not. I think many ppl associate HCI and RI as the elite JCs.
My oldest was part of the 1st batch from VCA IP, he was selected fm the O lvl track in Sec 2. So he has many friends in RI, HCI, TJC, SAJC and VCA IP etc. Now that he and his frens are in VJ and some are other JCs, they are all working on their A lvl regardless where they come from. in fact, at this stage, noone is better than anyone in acing the A lvls. All hv to work hard.
I think it is not so important once they reach JC lvl whether one is in O lvl, IP, elite or non-elite JCs. All still hv to sit for the A lvls. My personal opinion.
I think it is more impt that my child likes and is able to cope in the school that he or she has chosen. Otherwise he or she is going to hv 4 to 6 very miserable years. -
phtthp:
Yes they do. I cant rem the details. Eg in VS IP yr 3+4
My friend's son in Sec 3 HCI this year IP program, already started learning A level subject content for A level (Maths and hard core pure Sciences.) Yes, Hwa Chong already start to pull A level content, down to Sec 3 level.
Thus, one qn u can pose to VJC VP is :-
Is the same thing happening to Sec 3 pupils at (Cedar Girls / Victoria boys) ?
Geog- One of the topics they covered is an A lvl one. It is Population and migration. I still remember ds doesnt use O lvl texts, he borrowed an A lvl one. His teachers gave them stacks and stacks of notes which I later found out were very similar to the ones VJC has.
English- This is very geared towards JC GP. They start on AQs in yr3 for VS IP. I am not sure if Cedar IP does this but both this schools do the same EL paper at yr end.
Hist- They do an individual essay proj here which is very very similar to an A lvl Hist Independent Essay. My ds almost 'died' on this bcos it accounts for 55% of his IP grade. Again, some of his recommended reading material here are A lvl texts. I knew bcos a nb of ours from HCI studied them for H2 Hist and he was very surprised my ds was doing an Indep Essay.
Bio-Some of the material here are from the A lvl syllab. Ds cldnt do his work if he just referred to the O lvl text. Beginning of this yr, he discovered he had already covered some of the A lvl topics in the first 3 mths of JC while he was in VS. VS and Cedar exchanges papers regularly and Cedar IP Bio papers are even harder than VS IP Bio.
Maths- they covered all the O lvl topics and some A lvl ones (eg Permutations Combinations Binomial etc) but the amt of qns they had to do were alot more. Eg, given the same timing, O lvl does 10 qns, they had to do 20-30 qns. I still remembered ds had to do this Maths proj which was 20% of his IP grade. They didnt kn where to look for ref bcos it wasnt an O or A lvl topic, Later, his fren found out from his bro that it was a uni topic!
Also, my ds did all the VS O lvl track pp in all Maths and Sciences as he was curious how he wld fare in them. Let's just say the VCA IP curriculum is really tough.
My dd is in Cedar IP low sec, she uses Sci, Hist and Geog O lvl text for ref. I say for ref bcos IP doesnt follow a textbook structure.I guess next yr she will be covering A lvl topics like her older bro did : (
Actually I am not too keen on this whole pulling down of curriculum thing. I tot IP by not getting them involved in exams, they will hv more time to do more meaningful stuff. But I realised almost every IP I looked into seemed to be about covering more topics and making them do more advanced topics on top of their extra curricular stuff. And the projects are endless! Hence I say it is critical that a child enters the IP school she is able to cope in. Both my older kids are able to cope pretty well in IP. Their GPAs are high even on their own effort and with such heavy CCA commitment. Bcos I believe they are abv average in PSLE scores in their cohort and that helps alot.
I am still not sure if IP is good for my kids. But one thing I see they are definitely more prepared for JC curriculum in the beginning. -
yes. DD in Cedar too studied some BIO A Level syllabus in sec 3.

Hi
I would like to try via DSA(academic) route to this school.
My daughter s P5 result isn’t very good. One A* and remaining As(85%).
Is there a chance to get via DSA academic ? If so what is the procedure
Really appreciate your suggestions -
Hi Parents,
Anyone knows whether need to buy a laptop or iPAD for Cedar IP course? If need to buy a laptop, is it Windows one or Apple MacBook? Thanks! -
Anyone know how many Sec1 classes there are at Cedar?
How many for IP program?
How many for O-level program?
And what is the class size?
...trying to gauge chances of getting accepted there because last year's cut off point is two pts below my daughter's score and never know if the COP may go up. Between cedar and an independent school w same COP.
Thx for any :thankyou: feedback w above questions.

Dear all
If anyone interested to buy IP’s Geography Textbooks which can be used from Y1 to Y3, please PM me. For the past 2 years, the 2 textbks were not in booklist as sch said not compulsory. However, to do well in Geo in Year1 & 2, the textbooks are really useful resources. If continue Geo in Y3, will need the same textbks throughout.
For my case, I didnt know the textbks are useful till close to end Y2. Alot of resources can be found there and teachers wont be "spoon-feeding" till close to SA2.
I regretted that didnt buy the textbk earlier. I only used the 2 textbks for less than 2 months (just to prepare for exam) so they’re really in good condition. If I could choose again, will buy in Year1 or beginning of Year2 (instead of closing to end Y2).
Anyone interested, please PM me. Thank you & Good day -

Every student needs to purchase her own laptop. School will recommend some brands at affordable rate.Thank Isetan.
