Need some advise here.

Sorry, What is TCC?
When do the students start using the Ipads? Sec One or Two? Is it subsidised?
Seems that the teachers uses notes and not the textbooks, in that case, do they even need to buy the textbooks?

Hello! I'm not from a TCC Class, so this is all I know about TCC.
TCC ( The Connected Classroom) is a program that has an emphasis on linking different subjects together and working in groups. (It was started this year.)
TCC is much more hands on and group work and presentations are much more common - so they count a bigger weightage to our MSG.
The curriculum is pretty much the same, just that there's more 'out of the box' thinking. Also, TCC has this subject called CU3 - or common unit. This subject is basically a lot of group work and presentations that combine different subjects and if I'm not wrong it consisted of nearly 30% of our EOY!
TCC is completely optional - interested students and parents signed up on reporting day. Students who get into TCC are randomly selected. In my year, there were 3 TCC classes, so around 60 students.
For example, a History assignment in TCC could include Geography. For TCC students, they start using iPads from Sec 1 whereas the rest of us buy iPads at the end of sec 1 and start using them from sec 2. The school has a vendor that offers subsidised prices for certain models and we order through them - of course you can buy on your own.
Textbooks are not necessary ( from what I experienced this year) but good for additional practice and reference!
Hope I helped πŸ˜„

Juxta,

Thanks. Yr info is very useful for new parents.

For the iPad in Sec 2, what's the min requirement?
eg. iPad2 acceptable?

16/32/64GB?

Wifi + Cellular or just Wifi model is acceptable?
Hello! Glad I could help πŸ™‚
Yes, iPad 2 is suitable. However, there is a list of apps that require to be downloaded ( eg Google Docs) that require ios 7 and above, so you can use older models but just make sure your ios is up to date! ( and your ipad can support the ios)
The school requires at least 32 GB, iPad 2 and you can choose between wifi and wifi + cellular. I think just wifi is enough as the school provides it πŸ™‚

Nope, 3rd lang can't replace any subjects. If done well ( I don't know the criteria) 3rd can be included as an additional subject to improve your MSG but if you didn't do well it won't be included in your MSG πŸ™‚

Understand that Yr 1 students can choose betw e-book or hard copy print for Sci (Biology & Chemistry).

* Which is recommended or more widely used in NYGH?

* For those who choose e-books, the girls will bring their own iPads to sch? Is the e-book compatible with iPad2 WIFI?

Anyone can advise on print or ebook option?

Btw, heard that teachers hardly use the math & sci textbks. Is it true? If yes, is it ok not to buy?

Hello!:) Personally, I chose the hard copies over the e-books because I'm a physical copy fan xD But the e-book definitely has its advantages because it's lighter to carry around (we have to bring our iPads to school everyday anyway!) and should be compatible with iPad2. It's true that the teachers don't refer to the textbooks much in class at all, but I do think the textbooks are very useful for studying (especially in upper sec - worked examples for IM2 are great). Not necessary, but would definitely recommend:) If you are afraid of wasting money, second-hand books should be a great option~

May I know usually how many projects in a week/weeks? Are these projects contribute to their score for promotion?

I am still hesitating whether to appeal for my girl to IP instead of O in another school as her t-score is good. Am worry with so many projects to handle, she may left with no time to self study even she is diligent and well discipline. Please help… I feel very bad that I may have chose the wrong path for her and appeal maybe the last chance to go IP.

Hello there! It depends on the week, but we have more assignments than projects. Yes, they contribute to our scores, but we also have non-graded subjects which assign projects / SIAs. ( you can PM me for more details!) We don't really have projects every week, but I would say we have around 2-3 a month. These can be completed as most of the time we get to pick our group members and as long as you manage your time properly then they should be manageable πŸ™‚
In our opinion, let your Daughter try to appeal! My Sec 1 has been very enriching and I have learnt a lot not only academically but also from everyone around me. Especially since she is diligent and well disciplined, I'm sure she'll have no problem coping! I have friends who don't have the highest T-scores but they are some of the most hardworking people I know and they do very well too πŸ™‚ Basically in Sec 1 the project workload is manageable in my opinion so you don't have to worry too much about it πŸ™‚
Have a good day πŸ™‚

Can NYPS girls wear the NYPS skirt if it still fits?

Hi bigdevil,

Sec 1 students have PE once a week. On top of that, dance is incorporated as part of the curriculum for 1 semester and that is also held once a week. (PE attire is required for dance). I think 2 sets of PE attire will be sufficient.

I don’t think the girls are allowed to wear the PE shirt for the whole day, dd changes back to school uniform after PE, so basically the girls will need to wear the school uniform everyday. In fact, dd has to wear the school uniform for assembly even when PE is the first lesson.

My dd is not from nyps (the handbook only states that the skirt must be knee length), but if you are getting the uniforms on S1 registration day, maybe you can check with the staff from shanghai uniforms? The staff will take measurements for the girls and give you a slip of paper stating what size to get for the uniforms/ PE attire.
