      Big_Inspiration:
Understand ADHD comprises of either Attention Deficit, Hyperactivity and Impulsivity or both.

Would also like to find out if anyone go for medical treatment and the side effects (if any)?
There are drugs that can help control ADHD to control hyperactivity and increase attention, but there can be side effects and increasing dependency. I know of parents who have used drugs for limited periods to gain control of the situation, but I think the long-term solution that works best is behaviour modification. You can read up online - there's probably quite a bit written about it.

for mild form of ADHD, there is medication to help the child focus.

heard about the side effects, but think it is really different for every child. bringing daughter to see her paediatric doctor to check if she has ADHD.

my son diagnosed with ADHD since P2. He did not take a single tablet yet. (he’s in P4 now). All rely on his will power. We sent him to psychologist for therapy now.

                    hi,

my son is 4 years old and undergoing speech therapy (speech delay) with KK since last year.

He is also seeing a psychologist since march this year as he is showing some behavioural issues at home and in school. Also showing signs of ADHD but as he is too young, pyschologist said will wait till he is older to confirm.

Have changed 2 schools and current school feels he is not benefiting fr the program and now need to look for another school.

We are thinking of sending him to a special schools. Psychologist have given us a list of the special needs school. She also mentioned that it's not necessary to go to a special needs school but need a school which have routines, boundaries and strict discpline.

Currently looking at Kits4Kids, YWCA educational support unit and Zee School house. Any parents who have kids there? Can share views in the schools? Thank you.
I strongly recommend Zee Schoolhouse! My son attended their School Readiness Programme and I like that they have mainstream classes as well. So the teachers also integrate him into the classes.

He's now in K1, making good progress. The teachers are really caring and they often whatsapp me on the going-ons in school.

                    Fees are a killer.

Based on my experience in tutoring, ADHD children can be very intelligent and smart.

And for activities that they enjoy (e.g. computer games), they can focus and have attention even better than typical people. And their memory for their favorite things is excellent. E.g. if their interest is dinosaurs, they can tell you all the names of the dinosaurs from A-Z. I did some research online, this is called "hyperfocus".

The problem is for "boring" activities like schoolwork, they tend to have quite serious problems focusing and remembering stuff. And if forced to study too much by parents, they can become miserable.

These students need to follow their passion, in studies or career, in order to be happy and succeed. E.g. a passion in computer games can be nurtured into a career as game designer, etc, rather than following the traditional Singapore career as engineer/account/civil service if there is no interest.
Another example, is if the student has interest in arts / technical stuff, perhaps arts stream (JC) or Poly may be more suitable than the standard JC science stream.

I am not sure whether my son has ADHD … When we went to Paediatrician he said he doesn’t look like a ‘hyperactive child’ .But when i read the symptoms in the internet , i am little scared. He is very normal when he is in a new environment but when he adjust to the environment, he started to do mischievous acts.Sometime he don’t listen to the instruction and sometimes he will.He has a lot of energy so he will be climbing here and there. He will do a lot of things without thinking . Even he is hurt , he will repeat the same thing .Touch wood , so far no injuries.Boys will be this much naughty when they are in 4 ?He has no interest in his studies or listening to stories but he love to watch cartoon . He can sit for hours in front of the TV .Next year he will be going to K1. I am not sure whether i should declare all this to the kindergarten? I am afraid that if he don’t listen to the teacher’s instruction , the school may ask him to leave .

Please let me know your opinion about this .
