Any advice on Baby/Booster seats in car?

My 4.5year old son, (slightly > 1.2m), is definitely not tall enough to do away with the seat. Clearance between neck and the belt is not there yet. In fact, he's still sitting on the seat with the full-back and head support. Again, it also depend on the physique of the kid and the rear car seat, and position of the belt as well.

But never put your kids in the front seat. Smurf's experience is a wakeup call. And if the \"crash\" was stronger, the airbag would have been deployed, and the kid's face/neck may crumbled under the impact

I do not think my booster seat has any instructions, as it isn't a brand-new one - it was from a friend.

I'll take a closer look at the position of the belts again though, as you pointed out.

But I must say that I've let them sit in the front seat very often - all belt up of course.

And if kids are too young, they should not be sitting in front, as almost all cars nowadays have air bags in front. That’s why the instructions will always tell you never to use a car seat or booster seat in front if there are front air bags. The air bags can severely injure or kill a baby or young child when inflated during a crash since they are made to an adult’s size and weight.

hmm... what would happen to a booster seat after an accident? (not that my friend's one would have)

yup, agree that it's actually not good to have kids sit in front if there's an airbag. But I've never really understood the reason behind it. is the impact so strong that it'll knock the kid out? or is it due to suffocation (which I tot should not happen since the airbags are supposed to deflate quickly after inflating)... Any advice on this?

For us,
- no children in front seat, unless no choice.
- booster will stay with kid until we feel he is too tall/heavy (120cm, 20kg?)

just to check if i should change to another bigger car seat/ booster seat? my britax one is meant for kids up to 4 yrs, 18kg. my dd almost 16kg now. when do i know is the time to change? i dun really trust the booster, so not sure if there are car seats meant for older children. dd is ok in car seat and loves to sleep inside. so we wil prefer to change to bigger car seat which wil allow her to sleep properly and comfortably as compared to booster.

It has been a while so I can't really remember the price range. It should be from just below $200 to as much as $400+.

We’re using Aprica, which allows several stages of adjustments to the height of the backrest, the width of the head rest, the width of the shoulder side-panels, and eventually detach the entire back piece leaving the booster seat. It caters to child beyond 4 years old. My son is coming 5 yrs old, 19kg, ~1.2m.


Apricas are expensive. Cannot recall the exact price, but shld be well over $400
