Some of the boys already have whatsapp groups started for their 2016 classes. Seems like there is good communication among the community.

Wow, envy!
But mine will have > 10 boys, from his former class, joining him in his new class so he's very pleased about it too. -

It was the boys' own initiative.Thinkerrrr:

Thank you, Sieg. Very glad that my son will be joining next year.
Just got to know that MSP need to register on 23rd Dec 15 and has to be interviewed by HOD. So now the class is full. I wonder if he still has chance to register when school start?
We are totally unaware that we need to do that on 23rd Dec 15 as we are overseas till 24th Dec 15. -

Oh dear, your ds missed the deadline for MSP registration. This rings a bell. My nephew missed his too a few years back for the same reason. So in the end, he took up the Regional Studies Program (RSP) which offers Bahasa Indonesia (BI) which still had vacancies then and was also conducted within the sch's premises. Perhaps your ds can consider and enquire about it. -
The students who do RSP, MSP are usually put into one class for time tabling reasons. This is why the selection is done on Sec 1 registration day for many schools to facilitate class allocation and time tabling.
Suggest you give the school a call today first thing in morning and let them know if your DS intending to apply for RSP/MSP. Once school starts, and orientation starts, your DS is unlikely to change class as he would have already made friends.
For these additional languages, students who applied for BI/MSP after release of posting results and have the letter of eligibility from MOE likely to get it。Those who did not get the letter from MOE on Sec 1 registration are unlikely to get to offer RSP/Bahasa Indonesia/MSP. However, even if DS is not successful, there are many activities and Programmes to occupy your DS.
You may want to think again about applying for RSP/MSP. Most boys drop MSP, CSP and Third Languages by end of Sec 2, especially if your Son was not offered by MOE. Many drop even in Sec 1. The boys find it difficult to cope with another language and the heavy workload in Secondary School. Without regular and daily use and practice, difficult to acquire a new language and sustain interest in learning. -
More info on Third Languages from MOE website:
http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/seconda ... rogrammes/
While we all want the best for our children, we have to remember secondary school has more subjects. CCA commitment is also higher, 2-3 times per week. With competition, it is even more intense.
An additional language is an additional subject and will lead to more lesson hours, longer days, more homework, more tests and examinations. My DS was over-ambitious and signed up for MSP earlier. He gave up quickly. Same goes for his friends who took up Third Languages. Quite a few from BI and CSP dropped.
Of course, we each know our child best. So make the best decision for them so that they enjoy school. Over the years, I realise less is more. Focus on the core, learn and do well. This is what makes DS happy and achieving. -
Would recommend everyone to follow the school’s Facebook page. You’ll receive useful information and updates on the boys’ activities. Here are the latest posts:
Dear Sec/Year 1 Students,
Once again, a warm welcome to the Victorian family.
As shared during Sec 1 registration, report to the School Hall on Monday, 4 January 2016, 7.15am. The attire is PE T shirt and shorts. We will arrange you by class before flag raising starts at 7.30am.
The class list will be available in the school foyer on Monday morning. Our Peer Support Leaders (PSLs) will be there to guide you.
We look forward to welcoming you to the VS family on Monday, 4 Jan 2016.
Nil Sine Labore.
Dear 2016 Sec/Year 2-4 Victorians,
The new school year will start on Monday, 4 January 2016.
Please report for morning assembly in the School Hall by 7.25am.
As it is Monday, the attire is full school uniform with school tie. Please make sure you are well-groomed and your hair is short. There will be grooming checks in the first two weeks of school.
The orientation programme has been sent earlier to your LMS account.
Enjoy the last part of the holidays and the New Year celebrations. We wish all Victorians and their families a wonderful 2016.
Nil Sine Labore. -
Noted the differentiation between Sec 1 "students" and Sec 2-4 "Victorians". This is probably because there will be a badge-pinning ceremony that will officially induct the new students into the school.

In addition, the BI exam result is included in the computation of the overall GPA as long as the pupil takes the subject each year. Not sure about MSP. My nephew felt that it was unfair as his overall grade was always pulled down by this new language. But he persisted till end of sec 2. However, if the pupil continue with it till O levels, he may use it to replace a humanities subject in his L1R5.

My ds did not take RSP/MSP so I am not sure if I am correct. Lionhesrted, can verify please?
