With all the online poking at Eunoia, the alumni of the three schools are really feeling it now.

We are not talking about a name for a new JC but this JC is associated to three schools with long history.
Yep. A JC for SNGS, Cat H and SCGS, and this is the best they can do. A real travesty

The leaders defended the name but it's a tad too 勉强。There exist many other meaningful english words, why Greek? No Singapore spirit to speak of. AEIOU JC maybe?

The way the leaders defended it made Singaporeans sounded so shallow and didnt bother to look beyond the pronunciation lol.

            GreenBird:

The students who chose IP for these 3 schools, do not know that they will graduate with A level, from Eunonia Junior College yet, at that time when they submitted their list of 6 choices Secondary schools.
Errh, excuse me GreenBird, it's Eunoia, not Eunonia. Can't blame you for mispelling 'cause it is likely to happen to anyone as we know no Greek.
MOE spokesman said it is pronounced as 'yoo-noh-iea' but I did a google search and it is 'eu-no-ya'. So who is right?

Can send their economics pupils to Greece on exchange program to learn the actual pronunciation of their JC as well as to get a lesson on debt crisis.

Current talk elsewhere on the internet (and verified by Greek speakers) that it is \"f\" - ni - ah in Greek.
F-你-ah... This is going to be so much fun.

Besides the pronunciation, the tone and accent are also important.
For instance, we can say '你很美丽‘ easily but a caucasian may say it as ’你很没力' and distort the meaning.

So apparently. Even MOE got the pronunciation of Eunoia wrong.
It should be yoo-noy-uh and not yoo-noh-iea as MOE claims.
To make things worse, according to my friend Edward C. Yong who has a degree in Greek, it is pronounced as Eff-Ni-ah in modern Greek. Which in my opinion is worse. Lol. Imagine all the expletives going around. F-你-ah.
And final insult to injury? According to the same friend, 'eunoia' does NOT mean 'beautiful thinking'.
'eu-' doesn't mean 'beautiful', it means 'well' or 'good'. 'eunoia' = 'well-minded' or 'mentally ok'. a low bar to entry, clearly. honestly. 'eunoia jc' = 'mentally ok jc' or 'not insane jc'.

Can faint now as the only good thing about this name is its meaning....
