My younger girl has been in this school for 2 years already, proceeding on to secondary 3 next year , year 2016. I have never once regretted sending my girl to that school . We would usually talk about the events that happened at school during dinner. After reading the comments made by other parents in this forum , I would question my girl whether they are true

Yes discipline is strictly enforced in this school , but not enforced at random . Detention is given to students who are late , students who REPEATEDLY refuse to hand in/do homework , students who have abusive behaviour , among other serious cases.

My girl says that the teachers there are very caring and are willing to stay back after school hours to teach and coach the students regarding the subjects .

Based on the impression I have gotten about the school personally and from my girl , I feel that "hair pulling from male teachers" and "150 or even 20 squats" are very unlikely punishments given to the students from school . One thing , the discipline master is well received by students and is known to be nice from students , not saying the disciplinary part . As the saying goes "spare the rod , spoil the child ", discipline is necessary for students but I beg to differ that disciplinary actions is harsh in CCHMS .

Once again , CCHMS is a good school , all-rounded in its value teaching , academic syllabuses , heritage , discipline and lastly , teachers .

        Hello everyone,

Does anyone thinks CCHMS punishment is harsh? My dd is studying at cchms, told me that she saw and experienced many different types of punishment. Detention and teachers forcing students to copy large chunks of text or do reflection are very common . After exams debrief, teachers can force the whole level of students to stay back for one hour! :scared: :scared: :yikes: :yikes: :yikes:

At flag-raising ceremony, there are just too many students rushing down, causing a massive jam at cramp walkways and staircases. As a result, the teachers have to block out the students who cant reach there on time. then the Discipline Master will punish them by asking them to do 20 squads and more while facing the morning sun. My dd said a male teacher even pulled her hair to stop her from joining her class, I am so shocked! :scared: How can a teacher do that to a student? especially he is a male?!   My dd always do things with a sense of urgency, but bc her classroom is very far from the parade square, the whole class always comes later than others, and the crowd jamming the staicases wont allow them to come down fast enough.

I personally feel that the school should not be punishing for no good reason. CCHMS is a generally a good school, they educate students on knowledge, they shouldn't make students suffer pain and humiliation in front of thousand of pupils. The DM always claims that he does not care if parents asked why is the school doing that, he claims they are EDUCATING the students to make them learn. Isn't that a bit too harsh?

        :nailbite: :yikes:

Helping a friend to check on some potential schools for her DD. I have very good impression of CCHMS until this piece of info surfaces. I don't think I can tolerate this kind of chinese old-fashioned disciplinary actions from school's teachers and leaders. I believe they may cause grave repercussions for some pupils when they become adults. Sorry I won't recommend this sch to friend.
        Maybe it's only me...

Factually, I wouldn't be helping a friend if I will to advise him or her purely on hear-say or from some article that I read but not verify as true yet.

If indeed you are sincere to help your friend, go down to the sch, talk to the teachers, talk to the principle and talk to parents that have kids going to that school. That will give you true insight so that you can really give sound advice your friend.

can I ask about the use of phones in cchm? and how's today's orientation? I was hoping that the school will allow pupils to make friends and know their classes etc but it ended up only being able to buy stuff & leave :lightrod:

I thought MOE has given these DM some workshop how to handle the students? True that their jobs are a bit challenging. They have to deal with smokers, gangsters, bullies, etc. Different from primary sch environment

I can only answer the question on hand phones. Students are allowed to bring handphonesto school but they are to be kept in silent mode during lessons.

My DS only use it during off lessons - recess, lunch.

Phones will be confiscated by teachers if caught using them.

Welcome to the Chung Cheng Family.

Hope all Sec 1s will enjoy their next 4 years.

                    Dear lag,

Feel the same, three years back when my DS started at CCHMS,

Understand from your DS what are the activities he is having on that day as some days, he might need to stay back till late afternoon, for example during his CCA days, then he might need more money both for recess and also his lunch.

For myself, 3 to 8 dollars for a day, will be a reasonable amount that I give to my boy who is now in sec 3.
