I'm also in a dilemma. Been thinking about it of late which school. Would love to hear comments and feedback on your thoughts.

      #first child - girl
      #born - June 2011

I'm torn in between 2 schools. Chij katong primary under 2A2 with affiliation to secondary or Tao Nan under 2C within 1km with no affliation to sec Most of her friends from pre school are going Tao nan under 2a1. Or maybe Ngee Ann under 2C within 1km? All schools are within 1km:)

      1. CHIJ KC - guaranteed safe
      2. Ngee Ann - should be safe < 1km
      3. Tao Nan - guaranteed ballot < 1km

If this is your only child or your other children are also girls, both option 1 and 2 are viable.
If your other children include boys, go for option 2.
If you like a shot in the dark and is ok with a school that's not listed above, go for option 3.

IMHO, the last is the silliest option - when it comes to P1 registration, a bird in hand (i.e. option 1 and 2) is always worth 2 in the bush (i.e. option 3).

I agree with Floppy. Go for the guaranteed route. You may end up with nothing should you be unsuccessful. Prepare backup plans just in case.

        Hi kgchan,

safest is enrol your girl back into CHIJ Katong Convent school, under Phase 2A.

Ensure that your daughter do well in P1/P2.
At end of P2 : submit Transfer application form to Tao Nan, or target any other Gep schools (eg: St Hilda), or to CHIJ St Nicholas, which is affiliated to Secondary O level.
Within the same CHIJ Catholic family : it is easier to seek a Transfer, whether ur girl is from Katong Convent, from Toa Payoh, Nativity, OLGC, Kellock, our lady Queen of Peace, etc.

        If there are vacancies :
if your girl do well in P1/P2, have good conduct, have niche Cca, she should be able to transfer in, successfully, at either end of P2, P3 or P4.

In fact, it is better to goto IJ St Nicholas, then to aim for Tao Nan, as Tao Nan is not affiliated to Secondary.
In fact, some pupils from Ai Tong primary, average in class & in standard, not Top students, can also get Transfer into St Nick, at end of P4 this year (2015), for P5 (2016).

Thanks phtthp, floppy and orb for your advise:) this platform rocks man;)

Yeah, likely will register to chij katong than see how it goes from there. Their psle results kinda drop this year. Plus my experience in the school was not very fantastic though. But much have change over the years.

As my girl is those kind that will take very long to warm up, transfer would be difficult:)

Thank u all for your input;)

I am contemplating of applying PV for Ngee Ann Primary, and if lucky enough to get in and clock-in the required PV hours and successfully get into 2B registration.

What if during the registration I decide to try my luck in another school at Phase 2C, but unfortunately the situation of me getting a place is very very slim. Will I be able to go back to Ngee Ann in 2C phase and will I be accorded priority since PVed there ?

Yes, you may go back to Ngee Ann during P2C. As P1 registration is a transparent process, you will not be treated differently. However, should your child be unsuccessful in P2C and you decide to put your child in the waitlist, that's when your hard work in PV comes in. It is purely up to the school principal on the ranking in the waitlist.

One should only give up a confirmed space in the earlier phase if the probability of getting in is more than very very slim (I would advocate surrendering the space only if the place in Phase 2C is guaranteed; others may have a different level of risk tolerance).

                      We are PR.
Any chance to get in if we do PV ?

                        Sengkang Green - Yes.
Rosyth - No (unless your child is a citizen).
And the above is assuming you are accepted into PV - which is already a big question mark. That said, Sengkang has a number of schools that don't need balloting in Phase 2C and PR should get in quite easily.
