Thanks Coolkidsrock2 for your reply. My maid is working very hard for the past months. I think she is expecting a bonus...not sure if her previous employer gave her. Her previous employer was an Expat. Correct me if I am wrong, it seems it is common for Expats to give bonuses to their maids? Please enlighten me :thankyou:

        Hi muminluv,

We don't give bonus, is not in contract nor expected in mom rules. However, we do give her Christmas presents and birthday presents. If she does well, we do give her more for CNY ang pow. When they finished the two year contract, we do normally give them some extras for that regardless of whether they renew contract or not. Good :salute: to explain to her that bonus is not part of the norm and local families have different ways of rewarding good work,

        Hope that helps.

Well said ! You are absolutely right ,:salute

Fix a "call bell", can be a bicycle bell or karung guni horn at yr mum’s bedside and have one kept with her so that your mum can call yr maid when she needs assistance to get out of bed, go toilet etc…inform yr maid that yr mum’ s safety is priority. She can do the housework when yr mum is resting or sleeping. You can also buy a removable cot side and fix to yr mum bed if you worry she will fall off the bed. Can buy it from any shop that sells hospital equipment for home use. Last time i bought it from St Andrew’s Community Hospital. You can just slot one end under the mattress, the other end is the "cot side".

I bought a portable cheap door bell and leave it in the kitchen when my mum calls and maid cant hear. The maid brings it to her bedside in the nite, Its less then 10 bucks… I recently bought another and when mum press the button the other bell ring as well so I leave one in the living room and he other in the kitchen. … can buy frm the shops that sell taps, toilet paper etc … howmefix has it too but just go for the cheaper ones.

Hi anyone has any reliable maid for transfer? Preferably one with good working record, patient and experienced with children.

My current helper has decided to go back Indo for gd due to family issues. Sigh.

I totally agree. Having a good maid if tough to find these days.

I have had my fair share of pretty terrible maids who would use my things without asking...one that I had to report to the police for stealing and have her sent back.

                  Sigh... indeed...

                  Hi Tamarind

Thanks for the blog. It's scary! I'm actually at the cross road as to whether to hire a new maid or go maidless. My maid contract ending 21st Sep this year. Either options looking daunting. Siggghhhh...

Whether you get a good maid or not, depends on your luck.

I changed a total of 8 maids, before I get my current maid, who is a very good maid.

If your maid is not too bad, you may want to consider extending her contract. A good maid is very hard to find !

Why settle for a petiton? It is time to have a FDW employer association to empower employers and to offer collective inputs to other stakeholders. Furthermore, a non-profit organisation can be a vehicle for dealing with and seeking redress from, employment agents and FDWs. Unity is strength! It is time to act - Malaysian employers have their association since 2011! In fact, employers the world over need to unite - the problems we face in Singapore are being experienced elsewhere. The association can even the single stop for sourcing and managing FDWs for employer members thereby bypassing the employment agents. The association can also help members in other allied areas such as childcare, elder care, etc. all of which are hot-button issues in our daily lives. Let's have the resolve to not just rant about the problems but to unite so that other stakeholders would take us seriously and give us a seat at the table in formulating policies and making decisions. Let's help ourselves rather than hoping others would look after us. Let's not take it any longer lying down but stand up for ourselves to build a fair system for all stakeholders. All those interested in launching the association, please email [email protected] to indicate whether you are interested in actively contributing to the development of the association.

                        Hi Mommies,

                        Need some advice here.
My FWD’s contract is ending in Aug and we may not want to continue her service.
If that is the case, do I still need to send her back to her home country or just return her to agent? I employ her locally; meaning she was already in Sg and is not considered a transfer maid.

thanks for your kind advice in advance.
