Just an update on ordering books from dangdang.
It is indeed much easier to use Amex to order. You don't need the original Amex, those by DBS or UOB can do the job nicely.
And for people who are interested to join sprees in another forum, please read carefully all the postings.
I think there is one spree organiser who messes up all the order, and now the spreeists are chasing her for refund, but have yet to hear from her.
Agree with Tamarind that it is still best to order oneself if possible.
At singaporemotherhood forum, there has been other spree organizers who disappear without a trace after collecting money. There is a lot of risk.
That is why I would rather organize sprees myself if I want to save shipping costs, this is the safest

I just received this book :
好妈妈胜过好老师

This is an excellent book for all parents. In chapter 2 the author talks about how she taught her daughter to read. Basically all she did was to read as many story books as possible with her daughter, pointing to every word as she reads. Her daughter was able to read long Chinese novels by primary 2, her reading level was equivalent to secondary school students. She finished reading all the 金庸 novels by 10 years old. At 16 years old, she was accepted by prestigious universities in China.

The author of the above series of excellent books is 杨其铎. She successfully taught her daughter to read independently by 4 years old, the little girl was reading thick Chinese books by 5 years old.
The authors of both books emphasize the importance of \"大量阅读\", meaning \"reading in bulk\". This means that children should read as many Chinese story books as possible, especially stories that will captivate their imagination. Both of them wrote that it is very important to read from good story books, since this is the best way for kids to learn the words in context, not just from flash cards.
Many parents may think that it is impossible to teach a child in Singapore to be able to read long Chinese novels by 7 or 8 years old, because most kids grow up in an English speaking environment. I believe that this is possible. We speak only English and Cantonese at home. My P1 girl, who is almost 7 years old, is now reading Chinese chapter books. Though there are about 10% of the words that she needs help with, she enjoys reading the Chinese books very much.
My advise is to parents, is to find nice and interesting Chinese picture books, and read as often as possible with your child, pointing to every word, and encouraging her to read. Many parents, including myself, have taught our kids to read long English novels before the age of 5, it is also possible to do the same for Chinese. -

Thanks for your reply. Sounds like its slightly cheaper than buying each level of 100 words set separately.
But still more ex when compared to buying in m'sia. the ones in m'sia can be bought without the CD, but not those from popular singapore. oh, btw, there's the children's chinese story books promo now at popular, members get 25% discount up till end of the month. -

dangdang website states that it takes 4 to 8 weeks. My first few orders arrived in less than 3 weeks, but the latest order arrived after 4 weeks.
So I guess I was lucky the first few times. -

I tot I am the only one having this problem! My order in Dec was very fast. Took only 10 days (from the pt dang dang informed books were sent out). This time round, it has been more than 4 weeks. I wrote to them and they said it's still within the recommended 4-8 weeks timeline stated on the website and asked me to wait. If after 8 weeks, still no receipt, they will investigate. I think the books took ship instead of aeroplane. My boy is very anxious, everyday asks, \"Where are my books?\"

But the customer svc is good. I placed my order on a Friday night and the CS emailed over the weekends to verify credit card details. And within 3 days, the books were dispatched. -
