All About Church/Clan/Society Membership

Agree. My friend joined just 1 year before the registration exercise, clocked 40-50 hours voluntary work with the clan, but in the end didn't even get the letter. He wasted his time. He could've volunteered in another school instead.
I'll advise you not to waste time and money if you are looking to register in 2017. It's too late to earn yourself a recommendation letter as you would probably not meet the tenure of the membership period.angelwink35:
Hi members,
I would like to enrol my child for Chong fu school for 2017 registration . Any kind soul
Can recommend so that I can be member? Thanks a lot!! -
May I know if we get rejected for Pv at Chong fu as parent volunteer then will serving at Hokkien Huay Kuan helps in securing the letter? I’ve joined early last year. How many hours of volunteering work do we need to secure to get the letter for registeration next year? Thank you

if you read just above your comments, it is not about the number of hours of volunteering, is about the years of tenure... you can read the history, in recent years at least of 4 years of tenure to get letter.
Next year ? for Dragon ? ...my friend joined the clan immediately after her dragon baby was born. -
Thanks for your reply. Cos my friend joined for 3 years and got the letter so I do see inconsistency in issuing the letter. Is this a new ruling?

SHHK does not have a set benchmark wherein members of x years will get the letter, it all boils down to supply and demand. If the demand is high, it may well be only members with 7 year tenure and above, or those who serve like hundreds of hours, and whatever, will get. And this they will only know at the end of Phase 2A2 where the number of vacancies is known.
SHHK have their own criteria and they will score applicants against that criteria. Those who meet that will get the letter and those who didn't wont. Exactly what it is, I don't know. But tenure, volunteer hours are known - just the quantity again is an unknown.
Prior to joining, I am sure the staff would have made it clear that Phase 2B recommendation letter is NOT a give. Prior to submitting the form to get that Phase 2B endorsement, the staff should also have told parents that they may not get.
From ancient history, I think getting into chongfu wasn't as hard as say Aitong or Tao Nan, but these days, everything also competitive. The staff at SHHK may be able to tell you last year what was the cutoff, but of course past performance is not indicative of future. -

they just say in-house guidelines. One of the determining factors is tenure of membership.
This depends on the number of applicants and the number of vacancies for each year – longer the tenure, higher the chance of obtaining a recommendation

Thank you everyone for your replies. Have a better understanding on the criteria now. Just hope we still can get the letter after doing the volunteering work.

I intend to enrol my child in Chongfu Primary. Would like to seek the help of any kind existing SHHK members to help sign the sponsors field on the application form.

What is the 2B qualifications for SJI Junior and CHIJ Toa Payoh? Would the baptism certificates of both mother and son/daughter be sufficed? Please advice.

Yup, enough. Some Catholic schools may only require the parent's certificate. Some may want both. Call ahead to check. Hand in the photocopies and show the originals when registering. Home distance to school applies for the two popular schools you are targeting.
