My son has scored 7(minus 2 for CCA) = 5 points for his O Levels. His results are as follows:

      English A1
      Humanities A2
      E Math A1
      A Math A1
      Physics A1
      Chemistry A1
      Biology A1
      MT B3

He is considering between VJC A level and ACSI IB Diploma.
As A Levels seems a natural continuation of O Levels we feel it will be better suited for him. But VJC is very far from our house as we live in the north. At the same time we have a few apprehensions regarding the ACSI IB, since he comes from a O level track and has to compete with ACSI IP students. I believe ACSI prepares their IP students for the IB’s ‘Extended Essay’ and ‘Theory of Knowledge’ by provided bridging course in Sec3 and Sec4. Hence would O level students be disadvantaged? Anybody with their kids joining from O level to IB please share your experience. How did your kids cope? My son is strong in English but could not cope up very well with Literature in lower secondary. Would this affect his performance in IB? He reads widely, but mostly non-fictional books. Would that be a advantage or a disadvantage for IB? I’m mainly trying to gauge his suitability to the IB program. Any inputs from fellow parents and students are very much appreciated. Thanks.

If VJC is far, what about NJC?

I don’t know anything about IB Prog but I understand its not as demanding n stressful as A levels.

I believe what is more important is where your ds’ interest lies in. Regardless of whichever stream, both are challenging. If his interest lies in IB rather than A levels, I am sure he will put in a lot of efforts to do well.

Is there an Open House for you to find out more info?

Thank you zbear for your inputs. He is attending VJC open house today. Will try to gather more info so that we can choose what suits him.

I like to advise all parents and students to be very careful when you submit your application.

Based on what I see from this year's S1 Posting, 2015 COP is not a very good indicator of what might be this year's COP. MOE is very good at springing surprises.

Good luck to all and may you get into your dream JC.

            😄

why do you think is not a good indicator? do you think the cop will drop or increase?

Hii ! May I ask if my Daughter is taking this combination - H2 Economics, Math and Chemistry. H1 geography. Does this falls under science, arts or hybrid ? If it’s hybrid, when she submits her final decision online, does she put as arts or science course ? And if she did not do well for chemistry ( B4, pure chemistry ) is it still okay to take H2 chemistry in jc ? Will she suffer or anything ? Thank you !

That would be science. H2 chemistry will be hard for one with a b4 at O level. Depends on why she obtained b4 - lack of interest in the subject, or concentrating on something else, or tried hard but still got b4. If she thinks she will be able to put in many more hours and much more effort in it, could still be ok, but it is going to get a lot harder. Even good students suddenly ask for tuition in Chem esp in year two, when they feel they are still not grasping the subject and start to feel shaky. Make sure she is committed, as there is no room to drop it down to H1 level if she is doing three H2.

Any idea if there is a difference in the number of vacancies for ACSI IB intake for O level students, since MGS girls will also be joining? Will the number of seats for O level be decreased, hence altering the COP? Same applies to VJC?
