The wushu team use rvhs dsa to lure students in. I tell them go fly kite. If i want my child to be physical active, i go elsewhere, not for the sake of dsa.

Hi, my son goes for chess lessons at SCF. I must say (at least true for my son) that he has grown to be patient, read people's moves, and be a strategic player through learning chess. Chess is an intelligent game and the values that you gained are tremendous.

\"Chess as a sport requires a lot of mental stamina, and this is what that makes it different from a physical sport. Chess players have a unique ability of taking in a lot of information and remembering relevant bits. So, memory and mental stamina are the key attributes.\"

Last but not least, among all the digital games, chess games are one of the best games to take up children's time. Hope Keming can take flight in international chess, just like the popular schools where chess is always a cca in their school, not only a workshop. Maybe Keming can improve in her approach in getting children to take new CCAs. Keming has correctly recognized this form of CCA as a beneficial CCA for children to take up and wish the school all the best!

              vcaz2:
Do the P1s start with Higher Chinese or normal Chinese? If it is normal, how did they pick the pupils for HCL in lower Primary? I read somewhere that KMPS offers HCL at lower primary. Not sure if it is true.

              Hi!
KMPS offers HCL only for P5 and P6. Those scoring more than 85 marks in their CL will be offered to take HCL in P5. For children scoring below 85, if they are interested in CL or if the parents wish to, they can still apply for HCL.
              vcaz2:
Also, how is the curriculum? Does the child has a lot of homework to do and supplementary classes to attend?
It depends on your definition of \"a lot\". Other than the books indicated on the booklist, the teachers give worksheets as well. Some teachers give homework on the weekdays, while some during the weekends. Sometimes, it depends on the children's attitude and speed. I have two children finishing the same homework in different timings (10 mins and 30 mins).
P3 to P6 have to attend supplementary classes on every Mon and Thurs (130pm-330pm). P1 and P2 attend remedial classes.
              vcaz2:
How are the teachers too? Had heard some 'horror' stories of the teachers there. Ain't sure if what I heard is true.

Oh gosh, what \"horror\" stories have you heard! If you don't mind, I do hope that you can share. Cos I haven't heard of anything horrifying.
              vcaz2:
On average, how many pupils will score 240 and above for PSLE? Anybody knows?

I doubt anyone other than the teachers knows the PSLE score as the ministry wishes to focus more on character development than academic results. But such marks are generally obtained by pupils from the first 2 classes).
              vcaz2:
What about CCA? What is the niche CCA for KMPS?
You can refer to the school's website for more info on the CCA. Yep, the niche is Wushu.

Is KMPS becoming a Mindef or Home Affairs facility?

                Hi!
Security has indeed tightened this year bcos compared to other sch in Sg, KMPS's security was not as tight in the previous years. Nothing to do with becoming Home Affairs facilities but your extra tight security policy is considered normal everywhere.
                gvyong:
Security policy extra tight at KMPS this year? Parents not allowed to accompany P1 to their assembly area.. might as well not issue the parents pass, drop off at gate can already... wasted my time to take leave for day 1.
Parents are never allowed to accompany their children to the assembly area (only to the porch area) in the previous years.
The P1 Orientation did state clearly that the parent pass is for parents to enter the sch during recess time to see if their children are adapting!
                gvyong:
Also, no photo no cameras allowed. My frens happily posting from other schs leh..
Different sch have different policies. There's always a reason for a sch to take such measures. Anw, if you want to take photos of your child in sch, you can do it on LOVE@Keming (it's opened to the public).
                gvyong:
Cars not allowed to enter n drop off kids.
Cars are allowed to enter and drop off children! But only around the reporting and dismissal time... If parents have to enter the sch at different times , need to register with the security guard.
                gvyong:
VP says no security manpower, need to shut the back gate ... where are the parent volunteers?
I'm also curious with regards to the pv. Trs are always seen doing duties at the gates..

You can email the VP, Mr. James Lee, since he's in-charge of the registration for student care centre.
But due to the limited vacancies, it is advisable to register as soon as possible, preferably before the start of the school term.

                    Hi!
I agree that joining a CCA is bcos I hope a child can pick up a skill and develop himself or herself, not bcos of DSA.

But it's my first time hearing that Wushu uses RVHS to bait the children.

In the past, Wushu was led by the ex-MediaCorp artiste, Vincent Ng and has earned itself a good reputation, attracting a lot of pupils to join (there is a pupil who transferred to KMPS of it).
Now, children got to learn Wushu during CCE lessons and Wushu members always put up stunning performances on various events in sch, hence children are naturally attracted to it.

KMPS will conduct a briefing on DSA for the P6s and their parents in March. This means the pupils are unaware of DSA before that.
In addition, joining the CCA alone is insufficient to qualify for the DSA. The children must also have demonstrated good values and have achievements in the area to have a higher possibility.

                      Hi!

On 2 July 2016 (Saturday) will be Keming Primary School's annual LOVE@ Keming Family Day (Live Our Values Explicitly@Keming) !

It begins at 8.30am and ends at 12.30pm. The school is opened to all pupils (the current and graduated batches) and their parents, as well as the public.

There will be various interesting activities going on around the school.
The academic and non-academic departments (Eng, Maths, Science, Mother Tongue, CCE and etc) will carry out activities that you can participate in (parents can bond with their kids) and redeem a token upon completing the given tasks.
The PSG and Alumni will also carry exciting games and set up stalls selling various stuff.
                      There are also talks organised.
Last but not least, there are also performances put up by the pupils.

๐Ÿ˜“ haha, been some time since i come back this forum, but thanks for sharing!

When i was young, an uncle who was a Dr (yea everyone look up to him) gave me his opinion about chess n it stuck with me for life.

No offence. We shd encourage our kids to explore diverse activities/CCA if they want.
