If we assume that there are 10 students with the same raw and same net and all are citizens i.e. all things equal, how do we rank these 10 students such that the computer knows who to go through first?grownupbaby:
Just got some information from the school that the choice of option is also important. Said 2 singaporeans have the same point 3. Say 1st student put the school as first choice and the other put as 2nd choice. There is only 1 seat in the school, the 1st student will get the school. If both students put as 1st choice, then random selection. So confusing and complicated....
This can never happened if you understand the algorithm for allocating the students.
Say A & B have same marks, the algorithm will determine who comes first. If A comes first, the system will go thru the 1st choice to 12 th choice of A to allocate a place for him/her. After allocating a place for A, then it will move to the 1st to 12th choice of B.
In another words, if A ranks before B, it will exhaust all the 12 choices if A before proceeding to B.
So your scenario cannot happen & that hearsay has been wrongly passed down over the years. -

I think grownupbaby was trying to say that for appeal cases (assume score meets cop but rejected by ajc), the chances of appeal will be higher if the student has indicated ajc as her first choice instead of second choice.VitoRelax:

If indicated as first choice, chances of balloting with others with tie score and also indicated as first choice will be given. Otherwise, the jc won't consider the appeal.
That is what I heard from some parents.
Is the selection of JC carried out the same way as secondary school selection?
Did school really say choice of option is important as it may lead to random selection? -
"Say A & B have same marks, the algorithm will determine who comes first. "
Sorry, what does it mean by "comes first". School is not even talking about appeal case but JAE. They said by student and by choice. I am more confused now… -

Does this system applies to Poly admissions as well?

That is what I heard from some parents.
Appeal case is totally different. Appeal case is at the discretion of the Principal. If you put 1st choice, you can use it to strengthen your case but not neccessary will get. The Principal may look at other criteria like what cca you participate, if you are can play football like Fandi Ahmad, you may get preference over putting as first choice... -

The algorithm is for allocating all the 29,000 students to places in JC, Poly, ME and ITE.\"Say A & B have same marks, the algorithm will determine who comes first. \"
Sorry, what does it mean by \"comes first\". School is not even talking about appeal case but JAE. They said by student and by choice.
It doesn't apply to appeal case.
I am not sure why how appeal case comes into this algorithm.
\"Comes first\" means who choose first. If A comes first (or choose first) than B means after A exhausted all his 12th options to locate a place, then the computer will proceed to look at the 12 choices submitted by B.
So, you see, if A comes first then B, even if A put CJC at 11th choice and B put as first choice, A will still get CJC (unless A already can get a place in his earlier say 4th choice).
Hope you understand the algorithm
I am more confused now....
If you read and understand the algorithm, it is crystal clear. No confusion at all. -

If you are comparing allocation of PSLE ---> secondary schools and L1R5 ---> JC,
Is the selection of JC carried out the same way as secondary school selection?
then the algorithm is essentially the same except that in PSLE ---> secondary schools, the ranking is easier to understand bcos all students in PSLE has marks till 9 decimal places.
Did school really say choice of option is important as it may lead to random selection?
Don't understand what your question is.
Selection into the school are done my computer based on the algorithm. The school has no say in the selection unless you talking about appeal case which is then a different thing all together -
If A and B both have same score, both Singaporean and everything the same, who comes first? According to JAE booklet, it is random selection by computer. But school staff said the choice put also comes in consideration. If A put choice 1 but B put choice 11, A will get. So, I am not sure if it is really true.

I thought appeal cases is not at the discretion of the principal anymore? Only if there are special reasons, mOE directive is now there is no appeal if the points cannot meet the COP of the JC... even if only missed by 1 mark. So even if you play futbal better than FA, you cannot appeal if the points not lower or equal to the COP of the JC. :scared:
