well she got same grade for her geog and chem in o levels. she's worried she can't cope as she's afraid theres too much content to memorise. furthermore all her friends are planning sic stream which may influence her.

My DD took Hybrid combi - History n Chem n both are 'sion' subjects.

In JC, regardless of Science or Art subjects, they are equally heavy content - no running away.

      ๐Ÿ˜„

how sion is sion? are they both H2? which jc is your dd from if you don't mind sharing

I wonโ€™t say the subjects are equally heavy, rather they can be equally challenging depending on the studentโ€™s strengths and weaknesses. A quantitative person will have a relatively easy time doing double maths and physics, while some others have it relatively easy by doing literature and other humanities. Of course, there are those who find any subject ok and the opposite.

However, there are typically content-heavy subjects. History and geography in particular. DD1 took geography and told me students are discouraged from tsking history and geography H2 together. Biology is also perceived as content-heavy.

Iโ€™d say, know yourself and choose wisely. It can make a world of difference between an enjoyable school life or a painful slog.

I expect the choice needs to be made on reporting day or soon after as the JC needs to allocate students to classes. Anyway, for JC1's, they should keep their ears open and manage these things for themselves.

Reporting day should be exciting in JC. There should be an orientation program for all newcomers that lasts for about a week. The pupils will familiarised themselves with the JC's environment and get to know pupils from their OG. They should also be exposed to the various subject intros from lecturers and the various CCA available. By the end of the orientation, they will then be asked to select their subject combination and CCA.
