School Donation

I have the same experience even though my ds is in a neighbourhood school. The teacher forced everyone to \"sell\" the tickets suggesting tat they buy it all up themselves and then try to sell later. Shouldn't parents gang up and complain ?


The school should check out the Oxford dictionary for the meaning of \"donation\". :x

I would be the first parent to complain, without hesitation. Fortunate enough, I have not encountered this before.

No donation card from my dd’s school thus far. However, there is a collection tin where students go around each classroom to collect donations from all students. Form teachers informed students in advance so that they would bring along more pocket money that day. No specific amount indicated, donate at free will

Email is the best because we can leave a record for future reference. Call to speak to the teacher in charge of donation also can do.

Children should not be mark for not being able to give, then the
school is not giving holistic teaching then and it become like moving towards elitism..giving must come from your ability to give . :?

When my sec son came back from his neighbourhood school with a donation card, I supported it and encouraged him to build the 'thickness' of his skin to go canvass for donation.


when my sec girl came back with the same from her elite school, I explained to her I am not supportive of the donation drive (really get irritated by those minimum amount stated in the card) along with other explanation of my disapproval (such as her school is nice enough, her school has a strong alumni with many rich and successful people; and my belief that her school is actually very rich).

I wrote a letter and put it inside an envelope together with the donation card and asked her to pass to her teacher. basically in my letter I told the teacher that I do not want my kid to participate in the fund raising activity. Period...

PS: My daughter talked to me about how could she not participating when the rest of the class were. I told her to think about it as a matter of principle and get over her unnecessary guilt or shame that others want to impose on her and I think she got it subsequently...

Well done Insider ....it get me to see elitism coming into the noble world of educating our young..... we heading into the wrong direction in the future....
our young will not have the heart for the less able bodies and the those lesser than them in any way...

Glad to know we still have Parents like you that work with the head not with the crowd . :xedfingers:

Most of the time the trend of everyone is doing and so I must follow makes me sick

I always advocate the bringing up of 'thinking' children i/o complying ones. I dislike 'Yes', 'Yes', 'Yes' kind of people, young or old included...

Come on Parents :?: - let's not bow to the \"Herd\" instinct and provide no ammunition for our children learning to stand for integrity,
what is right to be done ........in the process they learn to be \"Real People\" or 'Hero\" ....
issit not the legacy we want to leave with our children when we are long gone ...

We are sadly very lacking ....with many parents I came across cos they are not sure their children will be 'side-track\" for not conforming...

I dont know that school donations also have a minimum quota. This is really beyond my expectation.
