StillThinking:
For Compo, she would let us practice the one we are weaker in. Compre is pretty similar tbh. In terms of workload, surprisingly, overall, we have lesser work than the best MT class for our year.

You are very very fortunate. The HMT classes in my children's school hv the heaviest Chinese wkload. They hv more 默写 and 听写. More 好词好句 to memorise. Teacher doesnt pick the weaker topics to write compos. They do all sorts, one essay a week.
I still rem my older dd bringg home 20 chinese compre passages to do a few days bef PSLE. Of course she didnt finish them. It's sheer madness.
But the HMT class is oso the best MT class with the highest number of A*.

I am wondering, what is the number of pages your child writes for Chinese compo and English compo?

My dd's Chinese teacher told her class that they MUST write at least 4 pages. She is in a Higher Chinese class.
Dd got 27/40 for a 2.5 pg compo once. Reason was she did not meet the requisite min of 4 pages but subsequently gets btw 36-38 if she writes 4 pages or more. There are ppl in her class who writes 6-8 pages regularly! I think 4 pages is too much under exam conditions. She is also confused as her Chinese exam essays gets 36-37 even though she writes only 2.5 pages.
It is the same for her Eng teacher. High marks are only given for those who writes in excess of 5-6 A4 pages. And yes, there are those that writes 7 pages or more. I can't understand how this helps to train the kids for exams.
Hi, I happen to read your post and recalled that I read about a PSLE Chinese Composition guide book yesterday that for higher Chinese, they are expected to write much more than regular Chinese Composition. That book contains quite a lot of tips. Let me go back find out the title of the book for you.
Hi I would like to know if you kids need to return to school during June holidays as part of PSLE preparation?

2 days in june, 2 days in september.

Actually, differs from school to school. But I would say that there should be, and it's usually either on first or last week of holidays.
yup...this way, the teachers still get to enjoy some family time during the holidays. i am surprised there will be 2 days during september hols...no harm, in fact, i am happy with the arrangement.

To do well in Chinese compositions, really need to memorise the 好词好句 from model essay. That is the sure way to score. Very sad to say that my dd detests writing in Chinese but in order to do well, memorise some good phrases. Popular has quite a good collection of model essay. The problem is time is very tight in P6. It will be good if can get your child to memorise a little everyday starting from P3. School holidays or weekends will be a good time for P6 to memorise 好词好句。

看图作文 for P6 level involves 6 pics. It is easier to refer to pictures to write 看图作文。There is a tendency to write out of point for 命题作文 unless the child has a good command of Chinese and understand the topic of the 命题作文。
You can refer to PSLE Chinese 3 years series from 2013 to 2015 to look at examples of the given Chinese compositions.

I was very shocked to see the vast difference in Comprehension for Higher Chinese in the PSLE Chinese 3 years series. :imdrowning: I advise you to pay a visit to Popular to compare the books and see the examples from the books of different types of 看图作文 and 命题作文。
Usually school teachers will not advise pupils to write 命题作文because if it is written out of point, the child can fail the Chinese Compositions. However for 命题作文,Chinese tuition centres highly encourage that as it is easy to score very high marks if the child does not write out of point. Some Chinese tuition centres will spot 命题作文 topics and if the child memorises the good phrases from the practice that they have done at the Chinese tuition centre, the child can score high marks.

All types of Chinese Compositions should try to memorise some 好词好句。
