Oh dear, get well soon all. It's CA time isn't it? I also worry for my DS2. I just wrote to his teacher for extension for his homework which he can't complete due to tournaments. Last thing I want is for him to stay up late doing homework and risk getting sick. We are sticking to latest to bed by 10pm even if it means not revising for CA1 which has started for him. It was exams and off to matches twice this week and I forsee similar scenario next week.
Can't help but wonder why teachers pile on HW during CA weeks...:( -
Take care all. There seems to be a bad bug going around - friends and colleagues have been down. All about the same symptoms - fever, cough, phlegm. and not all were due to over bingeing on CNY goodies.

Yes, both me and the wife have noticed this rather virulent bug going around the workplace and schools. The wishy-washy weather and recent stuffing of oneself on CNY treats aren't helping either.
Have a good rest and drink lots of water! -
MrsKiasu:
i had this phlegm which was just stuck...took flumucil to loosen but couldn't. sore throat and congested nose bothered me greatly. needless to say, passed the bug to daughter.
The other day I read you were having itchy throat. Now I m having it..could smell 'more serious' phlegm inside. No wonder has been having 'short' of breath. Just start taking some medicine, hopefully can be better tomorrow. Just realised got running nose also, better take zrytec and sleep.
this is CA1 period
hope you recover soon, Mrskiasu. -
SpartanMum:

my plans for her to revise science has been shelved.
just finishing daily homework is tough and eating into sleeping time.
read the letter from school...it's business as usual right after science ca1 paper. -
Teacher is certainly on a fast speed mode. For maths, it is on to the 5th topicc this week. Finished teaching 4 topics in less than 2 months. :faint:
Have to go thru them all with dc at home. -

now at percentage which is one of the topics to be tested for CA1. science topics completed...doing school's past year papers as homework now.
every morning sit in front of the PC looking at her weekly schedule to see how i can squeeze in some form of revision...really micro-managing now. -
The P6 year will seem to move at a very fast pace, and as parents we will constantly feel like that there’s no time to do much else, especially the kind of work we deem as "revision". I was guilty of that, and would fret that there was too much school homework etc.
Just to share that once I "accepted" that the school work had to be done regardless, I then considered that as revision, ie. made sure it was done well, learnt from mistakes etc. Then homework became regarded as useful & constructive work and deemed "worthwhile " in the sense that it was not something just to get over with and time wasted, cos it’s not "proper revision" (based on what we may think). Rest assured, if done properly & well, your child will benefit somehow. It will not be time wasted doing it well.
Hang in there all, try as best to manage your own anxieties, else it affects your child too. Take care! -
Oh dear…why are the teachers squeezing like this? Honestly, only the high ability students are going to be able to take this. The rest are just going to panic and get left behind.
So so glad I am not a kid in this day and age but it’s no walk in the park being a parent to these kids (nor a teacher for that matter) either.
I often hear complaints about how children in this era are being mollycoddled and how unreasonable parents have become - but maybe some of this is a direct result of the immense pressure that children (and hence parents) are subjected to whilst they are still at such a young age. If your child’s leisure time and even sleep is being compromised as a result of excessive demands from school, wouldn’t you as a parent try and make life a bit easier for him/her e.g. from excusing him/her from household chores?
Some might argue that this is a very narrow view point but one cannot deny that this is the reality for many out there. Children and parents who cannot support the demands of school life often get left behind. Of course there are exceptions.
I daresay, parents who do not get caught up in Sg’s academic whirlwind would need a very firm mindset and a brave heart.
Please take care all -
CMF:
problem is the math homework given from the workbook is nowhere as challenging as school CA...how can i have a peace of mind that my daughter is ready for CA?
Just to share that once I \"accepted\" that the school work had to be done regardless, I then considered that as revision, ie. made sure it was done well, learnt from mistakes etc. Then homework became regarded as useful & constructive work and deemed \"worthwhile \" in the sense that it was not something just to get over with and time wasted, cos it's not \"proper revision\" (based on what we may think). Rest assured, if done properly & well, your child will benefit somehow. It will not be time wasted doing it well.
