I thought PSLE is a local national exam? Since when is PSLE from Cambridge? :?
Are you mixing this up with O n A levels? -

Hi,
Anyone here send your kids to writing class? Any recommendations?
I think my DD needs help in writing. She needs to learn to write a decent compo.
TIA! -

The below CW was written by my friend's P6 son, my jaw dropped as was so well written by a P6!!! Moderator please remove it if it not appropriate as just sharing
He wrote a lot of well written CW!
The beach was a hive of activity (idiom). Children frolicked about in the golden sands on the coastline, while adults lay comfortably on beach chairs, reading magazines or taking siestas as the afternoon sun tanned them to shades of brown (place description). Coconut trees swayed gently in the wind, as if performing a dance (personification). I, on the other hand, simply moseyed along the front (vivid verb and noun) to unwind after a marathon cramping session (hyperbole) for my PSLE examinations.
“The best things in life are free!” (proverb) I observed as a refreshing sea breeze swept past, ruffling my hair. The crystal clear water that shimmered a sapphire blue (colour description) beckoned cordially and invited me for a dip (personification). After doing some warm-up exercises, I dived into the water. Unfortunately, I made instant contact with the soft sand.
\"What? Why is the sea so shallow? It was up to my knees just scant seconds ago!” I muttered; I was flummoxed (adjective) as I eyed the water level and scrambled up (vivid verb) to my feet. I knitted my eyebrows in bewilderment. (emotion description) A bolt out of the blue (idiom), a beefy arm grabbed my shoulder.
“Get out of here! Fast! Immediately! A tsunami is imminent!” a gruff voice bellowed with a sense of urgency. (SE dialogue) A… what? Tsunami? My whole body tensed up as I glanced towards the horizon. A towering mass of water was approaching at an accelerated pace! (nature description)
Scared out of my wits (emotion description), I took to my heels (idiom) like a speed-defying Formula One racer (sensational simile/hyperbole). I was not alone. Throngs of panic-stricken (compound adjective) people were also bolting for dear life (idiom)! Amidst the chaos and pandemonium, I had one thought – to put as much distance as I could between myself and the coast! I willed my legs on, knowing that even a lost second could be the death of me. Anxiety was a silent, scaly serpent that scaled my heart, filling every nook and cranny with fear. (alliteration, metaphor; idiom, emotion description) Apocalyptic images of devastation tormented my mind.
“What should I do since I can’t possibly outrun a tsunami?” I desperately racked my brain (idiom) for a solution. “Come on, come on…”
“Arrh… Eeek! Run! Get to higher ground!” A shrill, bloodcurdling scream indicated that the massive pillar of water was almost about to make contact with the beach! Get to higher ground! Yes, that was it!
Fortunately, Lady Luck was on our side as there was a hotel in the vicinity. Seizing the opportunity, the world and his wife made a beeline for (idiom) the edifice, in a final throw of the dice (idiom) for a chance of survival. We pushed and shoved our way through the opulent (adjective) entrance before making a mad dash for the upper floors, where we knew we would be safe from the wave of destruction. I had no idea who might have been trampled upon or left behind in our haste but there was little time to ponder as an explosive torrent of water ripped into the commodious (adjective) lobby of the hotel in a flash (metaphor).
“Finally… I did… it!” I heaved a massive sigh of relief (emotion) after my narrow escape from the clutches of death (metaphor). I felt the heavy burden of consternation lifting off my shoulders and dissipating into thin air. The aftermath of the killer wave, however, was a gut-wrenching (compound adjective) sight to behold – waterlogged bodies and scattered remnants of boats, coconut trees, deckchairs, beach balls and other paraphernalia were floating haphazardly in a murky mix of seawater and mud. (place description) Though I was stuck at the hotel for several hours while waiting for help to arrive, I thanked my lucky stars that I had been given a second lease of life.
Once all and sundry (idiom) had been ferried out (phrasal verb) of the danger zone by rescue workers to an evacuation shelter, I finally managed to get hold of a phone to call my parents. Upon hearing their familiar \"hellos\", I could hardly contain my tears of joy. (emotion description)
My DD will take 10 years to master the skill to write like this. My dd simply does not the flair for writing

Nicnac, such compos are not impossible to achieve with writing classes. They teach this formula to the kids. And since your dd is already in P4, you better start ASAP. It takes time to master such skills. (but personally I find the above compo a bit OTT)
Many around… search for them in the EL enrichment thread. Choose the specialists instead of writing classes offered by general tuition centres. -
