Raffles Institution (Year 1-4)

A huge congratulations to class of 2015 and teachers/mentors!
RI has been more restrained in celebrating excellent academic excellence ever since the public discussions on elite culture of top schools. and decreased effectiveness of meritocracy. While other schools invite pupils with academic achievements on stage, RI didn’t even celebrate those 4 with 9 distinctions, what more the 89 with 8 distinctions.
I do applaud this restraint. -
Congratulations to RI Class of 2015 and their teachers!
jtoh and the other class of 2015 parents, hope you will continue to drop by. -
:congrats: to jtoh and seaglass on your DCs' excellent A Level results.. :rahrah:
:thankyou: for your invaluable contributions @ RI forum all these years. Please continue to visit us here. Once a Rafflesian parent, always a Rafflesian parent.. Cheers !! :celebrate: -
As parents we are happy, but to see our DC mugging till late hours is heartache … Not Healthy to sleep late… Well done class of 2015! Remember , your life journey just started, be good, respectful and useful to serve the nation for the betterment of the society .

Year-5 students will be assigned Project Work topics today. Wonder if PW topics are set by individual JCs or MOE. And how does each JC assign the different topics to the various PW groups. Or is every PW group doing the same topic ?
Whatever.. JC1 'honeymoon' period is over, without the slightest doubt..

My older daughter did PW last year in a different school. The overall PW question (extremely vague and woffly) is set by MOE, as far as I understand, but individual groups will brainstorm and come up with specific topics according to their interests. Their PW teachers will guide them as to how to frame their project, what is feasible etc.Year-5 students will be assigned their Project Work topics today. MOE sets a theme and the individual groups will brainstorm and come up with the topics themselves. So the various topics can be very different across the cohort. Even coming up with a topic can take a long time and changes can occur, sometimes rather late into the process. As someone said, don't be in a PW group with a good friend. You might not be friends after. :rotflmao:Year-5 students will be assigned Project Work topics today. Wonder if PW topics are set by individual JCs or MOE. Is there any subject equivalent to RI’s Research Education in RGS? Does RE experience help in PW?
How about JAE students? Did they learn something similar to RE so they are prepared for PW? -
RGS girls would have done "Research studies" in Yr3-4, similar to PW. Don’t know about the JAE students. But they are actually comprise the majority of students in Singapore taking PW, so I don’t think they will have a problem figuring out how to do research even if they haven’t had much experience.

The PW groups tend to comprise a mixture of RI boys, RGS girls and JAE students so each can contribute their strengths. Some secondary schools may not have structured programmes on research but the JAE students can pick up what’s needed to contribute effectively to the group. What’s more important is the attitude of the members of the PW group. It’s very trying when you have slackers in the group.
