wa, Jet Li's kids also in NYPS? So did he enter by \"back door\"? Not fair right. I read that Zoe Tay performed at some school concerts to clock hours.

It is too late if you haven't registered as PV for 2005 kids with NYPS. Check the school website. http://www.nyps.moe.edu.sg/

Now you can still buy a place within 1 km and ballot. Quite a good chance. Unless you have friends to intro you to the Board of PV to ask them to consider otherwise PV now is not possible.

                      Hi all,

I’m new to this forum and being typical kiasu parents, my husband and i have decided to place my older boy who is 3 years old this year at NYPS.

I have some questions about the school and would appreciate any kind soul out there who can enlighten me:

                      - what is the school culture like? in terms of teaching style, is the approach creative learning or more on drilling and learning through the repetition?
                      - how are the teachers like? is there constant feedback, communication between teacher and parent?
                      - is the environment truly competitive, so much so that you think it’s detrimental to the morale and confidence level of the child?
                      - i heard that for popular schools such as this, the school will normally focus it’s attention on the top 3 classes since they attribute to the high PSLE score, the average to poorer academically classes are neglected, is this true?
                      - how often is the spelling, tingxie and CAs for P1?
                      - what made you decide on NYPS, since I understand that it is not affiliated to any secondary schools for boys? At the back of my mind, i’m constantly worried that if my boy were to fare badly for PSLE, he will be posted to a neighbourhood secondary school that is low in the chart.

                      Apreciate your kind advice. Thanks!!

                        Hi all,

(Just personal observations, some parents may have different take on certain aspects)

NY Kindergarten has no affiliation to NYPS.

Culture : It is a SAP school, they practice 弟子规, all kids do higher chinese, teaching is tailored to each class' ability....there is banding though not announced ....you notice the kids change classes from one year to the next. Not so much drilling like some famous school in Jurong West

There is regular meet the parent session. U can email the teachers anytime

Whether environment is competitive depends on your kids. My older one did not feel it being not in top class not in bottom class, with some eventually made it to NYGH. My younger one seems to be in a very competitive class but they don't show it, not much home work, mostly completed during class time....top score in the class is 100, bottom score in the class is 80 for most subjects...so it seems the school band them very closely....it terms of internal t-score....they are a few decimal places apart within the class

NYPS is also a major GEP centre among all primary schools

They do NOT neglect the weaker classes. I know for a fact the teacher teaching the top class is also teaching the bottom class but the approach and targets are different obviously. For the top class, the aim is for most of them to get A* for the subject. for the bottom class....the aim is to help them get a good pass

Very committed teachers all round and get personalised feedback on improvement areas...spelling and ting xie are weekly, word list given....it depends on the kids how well they cope.

On average, 33% of the cohort gets into secondary schools via DSA, and about 42% gets 250 and above for PSLE

Yearly intake is 390, and from P4 onward increases by another 100 due to transfer of GEP and non-GEP students from other schools
