I am curious to know more about the Year 3 Boarding experience although ds is in Y2. Can someone please share some info, for example:


1) During which terms do they stay? I heard it’s by batches. How the school allocate the classes? 2) Which meals are provided? 3) What is the daily schedule like? 4) What time are they dismissed on Sat and by what time, must they return to school? 5) Do the boys/parents find that the boys’ time management is better at the end of the term?

1) They stay for one term with their class. Some classes board in term 1, some in term 2 and some in term 3. No idea how the school allocates classes. Note that the class will be split into 3 different building blocks so there’s some interaction across classes as well. They will also try to ensure that you don’t room with your classmates.

2) Breakfast and dinner provided on weekdays, breakfast on Saturday morning and dinner on Sunday night.
3) There isn’t much of a schedule before 7.30pm – they can do whatever they want. From 7.30pm-9.30pm there is "prep" which is basically time for them to study under the supervision of tutors (university students staying in RIB to help out) and the boarding staff. After 9.30pm it’s free and easy again until 10pm (on some days) where they have a short meeting at night. Lights out at 11.30pm.
4) They can choose to leave on Friday night or Saturday morning. During my time (2 years ago) about half of us stayed in on Friday nights. They are strongly encouraged to return on Sunday before prep at 8pm so they can prepare for school, but if they wish they can return after too.
5) For me, there wasn’t much of a difference.

If it is more than 1-2k, I'm afraid not all parents have this budgeted in.

Boarding is not compulsory, but highly encouraged. It’s about 1k for a term after the school subsidy (almost half price). Breakfast, dinner and laundry is provided (thrice weekly). There’s financial assistance if I’m not mistaken.


Boarding is easily one of the best experiences I’ve had at Y1-4. Would really recommend it!
