All About Full-Time Maids

Hi I can feel you. My maid behaviour makes me boil too. Sometimes it makes us feel like we are the bad guys, don't understand their feelings or being inhuman . C'mon, these are the pp who turned us to be nasty too. Like what you say, I am thinking of giving up employing a maid too. Rather resort to other help like part time maid. You can consider that options too?

Same situation as you here, love1001.
My hus and I are the most lenient employers.. we allow maid to use hp at night, they have their own room, they can go for 2 to 3 off days per month. I have 2 kids but one of them goes to childcare and the other is cared for by my mum. That's why we need a maid to assist with housework and cooking.
I employed a total of 5 maids in 3 years. The problems with maids, you name it, i get it. Maid who have family probs and wanted to go back, maid who was so homesick she refused to work, maid who was so blur she cannot remember things, maid who lies and steals, maid whose skin is so thin that she always asked to leave after a scolding (for her repeated mistake).
Just like that, the maids come and go as they wish, while i have to do everything on my own when I am suddenly left with no help.. not that I am complaining but I could spend more quality time with my kids if I have an extra pair of helping hands. My time after work now is to feed the kids, bathe the kids and do all the necessary daily housework before I have time on my own.
I do not have a supportive hus in terms of housework. He did ask me to employ another maid again, but I was the one who insisted to try out coping without one. Because I am so paranoid of getting another bad maid... Then I have to spend a lot again. -

I totally feel you. I have had 6 maids in 6 years. Longest stayed for 3 years, shortest was sacked on day 5. I had cried rivers for being so stupid, spending so much time, energy, money, and effort in teaching them, coaching them, talking to them, counseling them... I give up.Same situation as you here, love1001.

I have 3 kids, 2, 5, and 8. Youngest 2 goto childcare. The 8yo I try to sign her up for as many activities after school as possible so that lunch is taken care of and her time is occupied. Once a week, she has to walk to the tuition centre (cross one main road), about 500m away. On most days, she will cook the rice. Some days, she forgets to press the START button :rotflmao:
I have a part time cleaner that comes once a week (if timing permits) to deal wash the toilets, change bedsheets, vacuum, ironing, etc - Usually what we do not manage to do ourselves. I am getting a robot vacuum to do the daily sweep/mop. After dinner I start doing the dishes and one of the kids will rinse. Kids are trained to self bathe and bathed for the younger one. Laundry is done when hubby is watching news while I hang the freshly washed ones and prepare the bags for the next day. I will mop the floor once or twice a week.
Note: Husbands must play a part. Find something that is doable and they must contribute. It could be setting the vacuum, folding clothes, or putting kids to bed, changing bedsheets, sending kids to school, etc. But must play a part. There is the part about lightening the burden on the wives/mothers, and then there is what you are teaching your children. How our husband behaves and treats us, WAS a replica of their own father, and our children will behave the same way in the future! -
Recently my friend had a bad experience in hiring experienced maids with an maid agency located just opposite to farrer park mrt along Tessensohn road. This agency is very popular because they give enough advertisements in local TV channels.
The maids from this agency are previously blacklisted and send back to hometown and now they are working here through this agent. There was no help whenever from the agent when an issue happens with maid. Their maids come and work for 1 or 2 weeks and later demand the employer to return them back to the Agency, where the employer had already paid full for their first month of employment.
They easily accuse the employers and threaten them saying reasons like
1. Didn’t provide enough food for the helper
2. Verbally abused the helper
and going to report MOM.
Does the employer have any evidence for these kind of reasons reported by the Agency.
Employer finally loses their money and badly need to pay for the helper for her return air ticket or dormitory accomodation expenses till she find a new employer.
It’s really lots of stress and depression caused by these kind of agencies & maids for working parents who badly need to depend these people for their childcare. Dangerous!!! -
What would u do if your maid steals money from you but you do not have evidence yet to prove.

They don't usually stop once they think they have gotten away.
Usual practice is to send maid away. Unless you want to go to the trouble of setting trap (eg marked notes, cctv), or that it involves astronimcal number, else it may be hard to prove with the police.
Else, if there is any redeeming factor, keep all monies very safely away. But this may not deter them for long since they clean the whole house and probably know the house better than you. -

Snow24, please be strict over the usage of HP your helper. I made the mistake of not setting it right the first time and also before employing her. Now my maid she hold her hp 24/7, and she is always glued to the phone, either yakking, texting, on Facebook, watch YouTube, listen to music etc… It’s disturbing especially she also does that when taking care of my baby. The best way I feel is to keep her hp and only let her have it after working hrs and be done by certain time, or they would be so addicted to it. My one can use it till past midnight. It’s really irritating.
