      Hi All,

Anyone tried air bnb in Tokyo? I am looking for one very close to subway (preferably near Tokyo station as this will be the station we plan to use most to move from Narita/Karuizawa/Tokyo/Hotel near Disneyland). If not Shinjuku, I just worry we will have problem navigating..

First timer, I tried browsing thru the app but from the way most hosts describe as near, looking at the map, they really don't.. so need expert advice which ones I should consider? Thanks a lot.

i would say, the best is to ask the host for the apartment`s postal code, then u can google to see if its near from the station.

pardon me, but why do you need to get airbnb? do u have a large group going with you?

Its just 2A & 2C but when I checked out some of the hotels, they cost more than S$450 for a triple in dec.

There were some discussions that air bnb are illegal in Japan and are being clamped down.

Thanks for sharing. Not sure about this but when some colleagues shared its still business as usual.

Any recommendations for a reasonable priced hotels near subway?

If you book something from someone who is not allowed to rent the place to us in the first place, then if something goes wrong, you have no legal recourse and you are not protected. But I suppose if everything goes well, then no problem. So really up to you. Enjoy your vacation.

I have just booked my tokyo tickets for the end of the year with ANA! ๐Ÿ•บ It cost around $800 per ticket.

While at Tokyo, we will visit the fish market, asakusa, pokemon center, tokyo skytree, akihabara, Ginza, shibuya, shinjuku, Harajuku and shoppings. We have many days in Tokyo as we plan to take it easier, not too rush and enjoy the food.

                      I have some questions here:

                      1) Should we go to hakone for a day trip? I know it will be very cold in hakone so I wonder if we should give it a miss and do it next time. I do not plan to stay over at hakone for a night and we will be staying at Ryokan at Hakabu and if we go Nagano.

                      2) We will probably give disneyland (been many times) and sea (been once) a miss. We will not go Odaiba as it is nothing much there as we been before too.

                      3) We are not so much into Japanese temple, palace and garden...so asakusa should be sufficient?

                      4) Any hiking places in Tokyo that is easy accessible?

5๏ผ‰Wanted to go Ghibli museum and need to find out where is it.

Here is my brief itinerary and would like to hear some comments and suggestions. Thank you! ๐Ÿ˜„

                      Day 1 (Fri): Arrival

                      Day 2 (Sat): Tokyo.

                      Day 3 (Sun): Tokyo

Day 4(Mon):Tokyo - visit Nissan and Doraemon Museum

                      Day 5 (Tue): Tokyo

Day 6 (Wed): Tokyo to Nagano, and overnight at Shibu Onsen. Wanted to go Shibu Onsen and visit Snow Monday after reading Dnl_mum's travel blog. But Kokuya is so expensive! May want to find other alternative.

Day 7 (thu): Nagano to Hakuba for 4 nights

                      Day 8 to 10: Hakuba

                      Day 11: Travel home

This is a useful site for shibu Onsen
                        http://www.yudanaka-shibuonsen.com

I have not been to Hakone, so can't comment but here is a link to a suggested 1 day Hakone itinerary.
                        http://www.hakonenavi.jp/english/basics/trip/
Just note that the ropeway is still closed due to increased volcanic activities there. Many people go to Hakone for the Onsen and of course to see Mt Fuji. If you are not staying overnight, so you are not going for the Onsen? Good thing about winter is that sky are generally clear, so better chance to see Mt Fuji.

If not into temple, Asakusa should be good enough. Can go shopping along the old streets there too.

I think Ghibli museum may need to buy tickets before hand. I did not go, but when I went to Tokyo on biz trip last year, another colleague asked my jap guy who went with me to buy the Ghibli museum tickets for him for his upcoming trip as it seems they do sell out. So you better check this out to avoid disappointment.
