Any Updates As To When PSLE T-Scores Will Be Scrapped?

I am curious how is MOE going to differentiate between the top 10% for IP and the rest for express and normal streams?
In one sense, the idea of being able to differentiate the top 10% of the cohort for IP, goes against the idea of grade banding where oneโs competency in the subjects is measured individually instead of cohort comparison.
If there are too many eligible applicants to RI, probably have to conduct an open ballot to decide who gets accepted. Else parents would soon know that the top few boys from different primary schools consistently get in which would imply that MOE is still using some t-score for cohort ranking and not fully subscribing to the story of grade banding. -

MOE may abolish appeal, just like last year (Dec 2015) how she implemented the policy that no appeal entertained, if students' T-score fall below COP.
likewise, under the new banding system :
forseeing that many P6 students falling into the same band may start coming in to appeal, MOE may implement no appeal entertained, if students fall below individual Secondary school's admission criteria.
whatever these individual school admission criteria are, only MOE & the school know. Internally, MOE keep all info, ready at their finger tips.
But, parents won't know a lot of info about their child, hidden from them.
eg
inside an Excel spreadsheet, MOE keep track, monitor every student's score (from both old T-score system + combined with new Banding system).
Across each row inside Excel spreadsheet per student, a few vertical column like :
P6 student's name, Birth cert number, come from which primary school, is pupil from GEP or from Mainstream,
come the academic part :
original Raw score of each academic subject scored at PSLE (Eng, Maths, Science, Mother tongue, Higher Mother Tongue, if applicable), Total Raw score added up, T-score computed (based on old system),
come the Non-academic part (become the 5th subject, besides the 4 core subjects):
original Raw score of pupil in Cca activities, in community service rendered (if any), in Leadership (if any), in any other areas, etc
next come the computation part scoring, under new Banding system -
under academic part : Total points scored for 4 core subjects,
ie. score for A1, A2 / B3, B4 / C5, C6 / D7, E8, F9
under Non-academic part scoring :
Total points scored from Cca, (translated from Raw score), etc
any other further data to be computed, or analysed further ....
above are some essential data captured, for each PSLE student, in 2021.
MOE can then sort the excel spreadsheet, by whichever column data they wish to analyse from. MOE have captured the ready info, computed from both old system (T-score) & from the new Banding system, side by side each other, for parallel analysis study.
how MOE allocate or assign which Secondary school to post every PSLE 2021 student to, they can make use of above data captured, for analysis & for decision making.
MOE can also sort by certain, specific criteria : to find out who is the nation Top / last student amongst thousands of students cohort sat at PSLE 2021, by the old T-score system criteria vs. by the new Banding system criteria.
with data computed, MOE can further differentiate, able to produce a list of those P6 students' names, falling within top 10% for IP and the rest for Express and normal stream. -

Yes, there'll be some white mice methinks. That's why in the PSLE grading system thread, I highlighted the word \"Meanwhile\" (i.e. could impact on PSLE2017-2020).
MOE will revise: DSA rules, intro new programmes, prior to 2021. They said a no. of things need to be in place before the grading system could be rolled out.

Another important thing that requires \"testing\" is the computer system/software. They probably need lead time to call for tender for IT firms to come forth to bid for the monumental job to overhaul the entire IT system, tweak the current O-level scoring parameters, or create a completely new software for the computation of raw scores for s1 posting (and/or balloting) purposes. This takes maybe at least 18 -24 mths, conservatively speaking?
Yes, that's my understanding too. So those 2 new distinctive programmes (ALP & LLP) could be introduced in some non-traditional top schools, to alleviate the pressures now experienced by those same old traditional top schools. I think they want to divert some traffic to tier-2 schools to help shore them up. That's working towards MOE's vision.

Aiyo, very simple...round them up, hv them marooned and fenced up on Coney Island for 3 days...Get independent and neutral assessors/facilitators to pit them against one another in a game of survival... The 'Lord of the Flies' shall emerge from such OBS activities. Feedback on potential leaders' leadership skills to be given to MOE school teachers for calibration.
There's no opportunity to sakar HOD, FT, P, VP...No chance to flex your PSG muscles or pull your Alumni strings. All are equal on Coney Island. The fittest shall survive. -

I am disappointed that there are no plans to improve sec schools further so that parents can stop pushing their kids towards ONLY THAT FEW SCHOOLs... why can't we improve the teacher vs student ratio in some schools further? Already we hv PMETs who are made redundant by the swift changing landscape of our economy, how abt helping these PMETs to make a career switch to co-teaching and we can improve the teacher vs student ratio in those \"neigbhourhood\" sec schools so that the students can be nurtured/monitored by teachers closely and hence even if they had not done well in PSLE, but they can always be nurtured to do better in O levels. ่ฟไธๅฐฑ่ฝไธ็ณไบ้ธๅ, ie solve PMET unemployment problem and reinforce the \"every school is a good school\" slogan.

I think the priority should be given to those soon-to-be-redeployed teachers, after the merger of those 22 sec schools. I last heard from my P friend that they aren't hiring any more mid-career switchers from the private sectors. They've enough teachers in their reserve pool to tap on, some of whom are adjunct or SAHMs? -

Actually, you raised some good suggestions.
I'm wondering if they could borrow some ideas from the SkillsFuture@PA scheme meant for working/non-working adults.
Some people expressed concerns wrt unequal enrichment opportunities available to students from lower income families. They may not have the money to attend expensive exotic enrichment courses like their well-heeled peers, and will be greatly disadvantaged, after the (rumoured) CCA grades & non-academic abilities for DSA are included. So why not:
1. Synergise with People's Association (PA) and offer some affordable or even FOC enrichment programmes for such under privileged students, using the same Edusave Bursary eligibility criteria such as annual household income of $6k.
2. Then give them some \"Holistic Enrichment Credits\" (like ActiveSG credits) so that they can go to PA Community/Grassroots Clubs to sign up for non-academic courses (piano, art, ballet, badminton, violin, guzheng, programming, robotics, chess, TKS, wushu, judo), not offered by their schools.
This may or may not be made compulsory as it's outside of school curriculum, but at least offer them an avenue which is both FOC and in their immediate neighbourhood, not like in some downtown shopping malls. FT could play a more active role by encouraging them to sign up for such subsidised enrichment courses to widen their horizon or expand their skills. The Credits shall not be encashed and unutilised credits shall not be refunded.
3. Encourage more private training providers to run courses for this purpose by allowing them to tap on the Skills Development Fund.
4. If Community Clubs have run out of space as some private enrichment centres like Tien Hsia or Mindstretcher have taken up the retail space, go work out with SAFRA Club or Home Team Club or SSC or reconfigure void decks or vacant school campuses.
5. Students who don't meet the household income criteria of $6k may also apply, subject to availability of timeslots.
You won't have this problem if you don't place too much emphasis on non-academic abilities. :siam: -
