Coincidentally posted this similar discussion in another thread

      Cut and paste here

Actually, I think the truely truely wealthy ones won't care much about psle or even A level

Know of a classmate. Real life 富二代
so grades aren't important at all. Can pick any school in the world, even if not ivy league
but still can easily join any reasonably reputable high school or Uni

Just a matter of want or don't want and where /when to go

It is commoners like us who have to follow the system.

Actually those super wealthy(aka super connected) who is in the race is for the prestige of being top students and scholars.

I know of people who can afford any university in the world but die-die must become a scholar by getting a scholarship for the branding and prestige, then return to pay back everything immediately and do not need to serve a day of bond, yet known as a scholar.

Of course, the backup is, failing which, they will pay to go to a good uni lor....
So lobster or shark or abalone....some also want to fight with haybee la....

Parents benefit and suffer from MOE's policies, so to ensure that no unintended consequences arise from their policies, shouldn't the parents' possible responses be taken into consideration?

I wonder, when MOE came out with the announcement on PSLE changes, ostensibly to ease the PSLE stress, have they thought about associated issues and all the possible consequences? Have they considered various scenarios like 3000 boys with 4A1s applying for 400 places in RI. How to decide who to get in in such a case?

I think at the tender age of these primary school children, although it's good to develop an interest beyond books, but to include it as part of assessment (non-academic) in the new system may not be appropriate. We will only see more 2yo attending all sorts of private schools to develop their special talents chosen and driven by parents.

Perhaps balloting is the least of the two evils. But does not mean majority of the parents out there will accept balloting to decide their kids future. But come to think of it, if all depends on luck, a brilliant boy may not get balloted into his 1st or 2nd choice and may end up with 5th or 6th choice, isn't it fantastic? Then there's no need to study so hard! :rahrah:
you'll still need to study hard, if you're still targeting an IP school, if your intention is to bypass major O level exam.

if balloting arise & objective of MOE is to spread out Top scorers armed with 4A1s, distribute them randomly across to diversified IP schools, end up there'll be Psle students with high end of T-score, eg: 28x, 27x, 26x, got balloted into
new Eunoia JC, Temasek JC, VJC, NJC, River Valley High, Dunman High, apart from the usual RI/HCI.
To drive home the message across to public that, \"All IP schools are just as equally good\".

if this happen, to ensure that their objective goal be met, MOE won't entertain any appeal from Top scorers, appealing to enter RI.
(if pupil been balloted to some other IP school, instead)
So as to prevent too many Top scorers, Head prefects, vice prefects, from many primary schools to conglomerate at RI, but to evenly spread them all out, distribute to rest of other IP schools, as well.
ie. don't put all the eggs into one RI basket, spread them all out, into a few more basket

But, P6 (students + parents) who dislike undergo balloting, let balloting result (luck or no luck) determine their fate decide which IP school they end up in -
may change wind direction, flock to NUS High instead by prefering to take her DSA Maths/Science camp tests, if student happen to be keen in Maths & Science.
Popular demand to NUS High, gradually soar.
