Hi, I will be moving down to Punggol area and my kids are on a noon kindy session. Anyone can recommend a local helper(non stay in) for me. Most importantly is they can help get my kids to school, and bring them home…priority is on my kids. Working time around 7am-7pm…Recommendation please. Thanks

My friend just hired a Filipino maid. I must say compared to the other household help I’ve met, she’s sounds quite educated and more responsible. What I like is her command of English. But I heard that it’s because she’s older too. Does anyone have any experience on help of different nationalities?

The local helpers would likely be a housewife. Try looking for a nanny. The kids will have to be most likely based at her place. Good luck.

It is very difficult to say... I have had older ones, that have older kids, and it was very difficult trying to get them to do things our way, our style, because their children had grown up despite not doing things our way - like they are wiser and whatever we ask them to do, they had (giving the right medicine, the right dosage, use or don't use bleach, ways to cook, ways to clean, etc). Basically, they can be difficult to teach. The more experienced ones in SG might be looking for Sundays and PH off, higher salary etc.

I must agree that most Filipino maids speak better English and many of them command higher salary and ask for every Sunday off, PH also entitled. My first maid was Filipino but she has got attitude problem, so send her away after less than 2 mths. She is too experienced and worked with the ang moh for too long.

I have added a new maid in my blog, and included a short video of her hitting a baby 😞

Make sure you check out my blog :

This maid has not been blacklisted. You may end up employing her ! So please take note of her particulars if you are planning to employ a new maid. My blog also includes a list of other maids to avoid.

Nowadays good maids are hard to find. Very hard to trust your kids with them when you are out at work.
